Ear Pro - what do you use? Recommend?

I currently have a pair of Motorola muffs that the wife got for me for Christmas last year. They're effective, but they're super tight and I usually double up with plugs if I'm shooting inside. They're not bad, but I'm looking to get new ones.

Buddy dropped off his new pair of Walker's Razor electronic muffs last night for me to try out, I'm very excited to try them. I've heard good things. Right now, they're like $42 on Amazon, that seems like a hell of a deal. I tried them on w/ my hat and glasses, shouldered a rifle, and they were super comfortable. It was weird hearing everything via speaker, but nothing that I can't get over.

What's your experience with these? I know people say to try Howard Leight or Walker's, so they seem interchangeable. How well do they perform compared to regular muffs?

What about in-ear electronic ear pro? I've seen these but I have no idea about them.

He got them in Kryptek, I think they look sweet. Hard shell case was $15

The in ear electronics are expensive, $800-plus. Non electronic custom molded plugs are $80 - $150, I like mine because they don't interfere with my gun mount for clays... there are DIY kits or go to an audiologist for molds. But I use muffs for everything else because they are more comfortable, easier on and off, etc. I like my MSA Sordins because they have nice gel ear cups but they aren't cheap either.

In terms of effective noise blocking the cheap foamie ear plugs work nearly as well IMHO, just like a pair of $20 ear muffs will do 99%. The rest is just comfort and fit... if they fit better you get a better seal and you tend to wear them longer.

Just don't do the Hickock 45 lol, huh?

People poo poo me but I just use basic $30 muffs and foam plugs under. Can't hardly hear a thing like that. In a small indoor range the AR just sounds like a distant "Poom!". I would like to invest in a slimmer pair of nice electronic muffs though, to cut down on the bulk and to be able to communicate with others on the line easier.

I got them when I first started shooting defensive pistol. Because I was novice in this arena I wanted to be able to hear the RO's commands. So far no complaints, no interference when shooting long guns either. My one concern is when shooting indoors I put in foamies underneath. Honestly I would probably do that with normal ear muffs.

Edit: I did pick those up when they were on sale and free shipping for $25. So if your patient you can find deals on them.

I use the Howard Leights linked above. Although when shooting trap and skeet I use gel or foam in ear plugs because the muffs interfere with my check weld.

To be honest,,,I'll let you know come summer. My memory sucks but from what I remember, there is a reason I still use them. For 13 bucks,,,they are at least worth trying....Sorry bud,,thats what you get from a previous head injury,,,bad fucking memory :)

@GTN Interesting. I've used those style bluetooth headphones before, but adding a mic to make them ear pro is an interesting blend. I was actually looking for new BT headphones too. Hmmmmmmm.

I just purchased a set of Caldwell electronis for $15 @ Cabelas for hunting

I use the howard leights too. I also have a pair of the peltor tactical 6s, but they squeeze so tight they hurt after a while.

I really want a pair of the msa sordins, but you can almost buy a new gun for the same cost.

I've been using the Peltor Tacticals for the past few years but after about an hour or more of wearing them they become uncomfortable. I also feel they don't seal well where my glasses go under the ear cups. I just bought a pair of the MSA Sordins with the gel pads and they should arrive some time this week. They are expensive but if they work as expected it will be worth it.

Yeah, those MSA's look like the Howard and the Walker's. What's the difference, other than the cost? Like @Celt and @togmaster indicated, also seems like a lot of money for something that loses comfort after a while. My current Motorola ones are a little like that. Very tight and you have to position them perfectly, especially w/ glasses on, and I don't even think they seal that well. I end up doubling up w/ those on. Maybe like some said, the gel ones are an improvement.

Just looked at the Peltor's, they remind me of my Motorola, just with electronics added. Same cup design and similar concerns about squeezing. Wonder why these are so tight, yet the Walker's/HL can do it w/out making it seem like your head is in a vice

3M foam plugs and muffs.

Earplugs alone do not protect the skull bome around the ear.....this transfers sound as well. It is best to protect it with muffs.

In the end, no matter what, your entire skull transfers sound. If you shoot regularly, no matter what you do you still permanently damage your hearing. Obviously do what you can.

This is why the HPA is so important.

Those look a little too big for my liking, Joe. The Moto's I have are similarly sized and I have similar issues. I'm liking the slimmer suggestions. 30 is pretty good though.

As for what @Bullet Guy said, right on. I've already got loss from music and working on cars. I can't wait to see what 70 is gonna be like.

Love these things. Just got mine from our recent Secret Santa and have used them everytime I went out.

The cups are a lot better, overall quality is nicer. They're luxury items, cheaper stuff works too.

If it's cheaper because it's not popular, watch me wear pink.

You can castrate me if I ever get a douche knot though. Scratch that, it automatically happens when you knot up.
