That article is unsettling. Nevertheless that information isn't all that surprising, nor is it totally unavailable to the general public. The government clearly knows and their inaction speaks volumes.
As for the rest of the public, others have posted videos that the US government estimates something like 90% of the population would perish in such an attack. In regard to personal survival, something like 1/3 of the population owns firearms. Simply owning a gun puts you at a massive advantage over the majority of the majority of people in this country. Training with those firearms puts you over an even greater percentage, with other factors such as food/water storage only increasing your odds. How many people in this country have enough water to survive 3 days? 1 week? Its insane to think how unprepared most people are.
Probably falling on deaf ears as I'm sure you are aware but is worth reiterating.
If we get hit by an EMP, if you are in a modern airplane at that time your dead, there goes probably 50-100 thousand people right there not including people killed on the ground when the planes crash.
How many people need medical care? How many people are diabetic? How many are reliant on medications? How many people are in hospitals or in surgery ? All of them die either immediately or eventually.
Depending on time of year and geographic location how many can survive freezing or hot temperatures for months on end with no electricity or relevant skills to overcome nature? Many will die here too.
Forget about diseases. 3rd world diseases will ravage a collapsed 1st world civilization. Millions more will die of disease.
Infrastructure stops dead where it is at that time.
Do you have access to a reliable supply of safe clean drinking water or the ability to treat and prepare water? Millions more die here
Food...I'm sure everyone with guns just assumes they will head for the hills and hunt. Well everyone has that idea and ALL game will be rapidly depleted. How many people have ability to garden and store or can food? How many actually have seeds in hand now? Millions Wil starve to death.
If you were traveling or out of town at the time it happens well your now a stranded in place refugee. Many Wil die there.
And who knows if nuclear reactors can be safely shut down on backup generators or if their cores have uncontrolled meltdowns and go Chernobyl on us x100. No one knows depending who you ask you get a different answer.
And those that survive everything above will have to protect what they have from 2 legged predators who want to take w hats yours or prey on you directly. Crime will skyrocket and frontier justice will be the law of the land. Millions more will suffer violent deaths.

Refineries will stop leading to fuel stopping. That would leading to trucks stopping deliveries and no food in the supermarkets. In one weeks time, all food will be consumed. In two weeks time, ketchup, mustard, and all other condiments will be consumed. After that, starvation sets in.

Everything I do in life now is due to the threat of an EMP.
My preparing for the future is 100% based on this threat. The food and water stocking, the ammo hoarding; everything.
This is a real threat, America will be caught with their pants down and many, many will perish!

The EMP threat is serious ... ... We plan as best we can .. Like most folks $ is a main issue. While I have access to more than most. .. Some decent land ... A few tractors that would work in an EMP era. We Try to buy quality tools Knowledge of growing food .. Canning .... Just had 2 crowns taken care of this month .... $2000 ... As I said money is an issue ... Not enough to go around ... Trying to establish a priority in what needs to be done 1st is challenging at times . Last year dropped over $7000 on an engine rebuild on a 1965 model John Deere diesel tractor ... It will run during an EMP. Around 65 HP with a loader . . Does not take long for the $$$ to fly out of ones hand . ... Not trying to discourage folks . Just keep plugging away . Do the best one can.

One thing that worries me with this or a similar grid down senario is that even though you may have stock piled everything you need, unless you are bugging in at a remote location and have 24hr security(and even with that) you are vulnerable to someone or group just burning your house, with you and all your weapons and supplies, down.
