Warning his readers of policies shaped by the majority, Bradbury writes, “The most dangerous enemy of truth and freedom, the solid unmoving cattle of the majority. Oh, God, the terrible tyranny of the majority.” Today, politicians claim the right to destroy freedom when they get a majority vote of the people. This dangerous reasoning is antithetical to the founding principles of this country.

We can take a lesson from Bradbury’s character Professor Faber, who recognized the consequences of his own self-censorship: “I saw the way things were going, a long time back. I said nothing. I’m one of the innocents who could have spoken up and out when no one would listen to the `guilty,’ but I did not speak and thus became guilty myself.”

How ironic that today, claiming they are “woke,” progressives clamor for tyranny and censorship. In Bradbury’s world the “woke” saw through the lies of tyranny and censorship. Bradbury would exhort us to avoid expediency and speak out to prevent the worst.

But when it gets to "you will wear a mask or we will lock you in a cage and kill you if you resist" and "If you let someone in your store without one we will shut you down". Then it is getting pretty bad.

So will you also demand that every store has a mask inspector ? Making sure every mask is fitted and worn properly ? Along that it is a "proper mask ? Folks wearing a bandana in that store has proven that it does nothing ..

We are experiencing Tyranny already with masks. I didn't say it is the greatest injustice.

I had a friend work on the thruway and in the spring he had to shave his beard. If there was a chemical spill he needed to have the gas mask fit properly. So he had to shave off that beard. Why he could wear a beard in the winter that for some reason was allowed . I don't know.... To protect the public ... we need to ban beards .....until this is over ... We need to get that mask to fit correctly.....

That's how it should work. It should be an individual decision. Its America, we should be free to make informed decisions that we are comfortable with.

If you want to wear a mask, wear a mask.
If you don't want to wear a mask, don't wear a mask.

If you own a store you should be able to decide whether your customers have to wear masks, if they can can decide themselves, or even go a step further and declare it a mask free establishment.

Consumers should also support or not support businesses they seem appropriate.



No one should demand anyone else to do anything.

I re-read farenheit 451 a year or 2 ago and it blew me away. We are way closer to these dystopian novels than I ever realized. Its very frightening.

With any luck I'll be one of the homeless drifter guys that Guy montage comes across down by the river when he's outside his (agenda 21) city fleeing.


In high school i read
Farenheit 451 and 1984. I reread them both within the past year or two and I'm so glad I did. I encourage everyone to.

Now I need to add brave new world to my reading list, I'm sure I will have a new found appreciation for that as well.


These dystopian sci fi novels are quickly turning into near future history works.

I think it's obvious that people often call for more tyranny, not less until they reach a breaking point where people can no longer tolerate the blatant abuse by their oppressors.

Two examples most people might be familiar with:

The Hebrew Bible. If you believe the story has any merit, it was the Jewish people that clamored for a king to lead them. They lived under a more loose confederated system, but since their neighbors all had kings (specifically their enemies), they thought they would be more effective with a king to lead them and they would be more successful in fighting their enemies with one.

The Roman Republic. To move more into established history, the Romans were staunchly Republican anti-monarchists. They hated the idea of kings. That said, populist politicians were gaining power because the people felt badly represented and like their political needs weren't being met. Caesar was quite populist. He took power in the Roman Republic under a very thin legal veil, but was assassinated for looking like he was aspiring towards kingship. His successor, Octavian (aka Caesar Augustus), made no pretenses towards kingship, but instead presented himself as distinctly not a king, but a "first citizen". That said, he was, de facto, a king. He held ultimate control over the Roman government, but the people loved the stability and relative peace he brought. From then on, Rome was ruled by an emperor, who was basically a king. It took a very long time and the collapse of imperial authority (and its replacement) for representative government to return to any lands formerly part of the Roman empire. Representative government is usually given up by the will of the people and hard to take back by those people once it's lost.

This covid thing, seems like for every expert that says Yes to something, there is another expert saying No. Yes to the mask and a no for the mask.

What you posted about not giving a company your business for not enforcing the mask thing; I am the opposite, those that force the customer to wear a mask, I will not give them my money.
