As an alarm, the little guys can be almost as good as a rottie or a pit. They'll alert you just fine, just not as intimidating is all....

Yep. This guy thinks he's 100 pounds when a stranger shows up. Then I say he's ok and he jumps in their lap and licks. The pit looked scary but he was also a lap dog! My old Rottie took his job as protector seriously but was fine when I said the person was ok. I look at all dogs as alarms.

Most of our dogs are growlers until an actual entry attempt. Our 15 pound Chihuahua/Corgi mix is the alarm when a mouse farts in the garage, or a bird flys by the window. Hes kinda the dog that cried wolf.

we've got two very small dogs. The youngest one is 9 and he's more alert and hyper than most puppies. If i get up in the middle of the night, he's already awake at the end of the bed. He sits up and tells me someone is coming sometimes minutes before I hear or see something. His hearing is ridiculously sharp.
