thinking of mounting a fiber optic front sight on my Kimber custom 11 target 1911. first is this a do it your self project or should it be sent to Kimber or should I use a local smith. what color would you recommend?
Easy enough to install but it may need some fitting. I have a file set and a sharpening stone and I've done it on a few pistols including my Kimber. With fo I prefer the green but to each his own.
called Kimber they will not install them for me found that to be rather odd seeing that the new target 11 comes with fo sights so i asked the woman on the phone if i bought a new pistol and there was a problem with the sights would Kimber replace the m she said of course then i said it seems strange to me that u wouldn't put them on my gun then it got a little weired cause she said if i use aftermarket sights it voids Kimber warranty and if i send the pistol to them it has to come back with the original sights
I recommend TFO sights cause they combine tritium and fiber optics. This way the sights are very visible in daylight and nighttime. I had a gunsmith install them on my Ruger SR40C . I also have a Sig P938 Equinox with Sig nightlites and a tfo front sight (only a couple of the 938s have the tfo front sight -Equinox and BRG). Try and find a smith who works with TFOs regularly. You have a great gun so you want everything perfect.
just talked to Kimber again got a much better answer they will install Fo later in the fall they do not have enough invatory for there production needs they think that the end of august or september they will be caught up so i think i will wait and have them do the install
Sorry but why are you only having Kimber do it? Why not take it to a local gunsmith? You are probably going to spend just as much on shipping as you will on the sights?
I normally use a local smith but there a 2 reasons why I'm not in this case 1 talked to 2 smiths and neither knew the proper hight of the front sight 2 Kimber voids the warranty if u use aftermarket parts
