Caught my first coyote trapping this am. Was pretty bummed out bc he had mange bad. Also pulled a nice red this morning. K9's are starting to move about good it seems.

Wouldn't have made it though the winter.

No loss with removing a mange critter from the eco-system. Our one shepherd picked it up years ago and brought it home to the second shepherd, what a mess. They caught it from a fox.

Even as someone who use to trap, It's difficult to see an animal in one. Because you know what comes next as he sits held looking at you.

Mange is the k9 equivalent of scabies for people. It is a mite that burrows under the skin and itches like mad. The skin becomes infected and scabs and hair loss is very noticeable. It is contagious so it is good to kill the animal infected. The mites can't live long without the host being alive so unless they can get onto another animal quickly (another dog eats or rolls around on the carcass) those mites die off.
I was bummed because I trap for the fur. Plus being my first yote I was looking forward to the hide.

No empathy for me lol. The increase in coyote and fox population due to a lack of trapping and hunting depletes other wildlife. Big decline in deer and turkey numbers because of them.
No worries, I call/hunt coyote and think trapping is brutal.

I could not be a trapper.
Shooting dead no problem but Id end up letting an animsl I trapped go, so that would be very unproductive.
However, I would kill a mangy animal, that shit is horrible and can run through an entire county.
