First Time Gun Buyer

I live in Putnam County NY. I've had my pistol permit for about a year, but I'm just now buying my first handgun, Glock 30 Gen4. I purchased online and it's being shipped to a local FFL dealer. I heard yesterday that once the gun arrives, I will get the sales receipt, and I need to get my permit ammended to add my new gun to it. They are saying the backlog in Putnam County is 4 weeks!!! Is that accurate that I can't pick up my new glock until I get the ammended permit in 4 weeks??

Sounds about right. Varies by county. My county we go down, put it on, pay $3 and bring coupon back to dealer.

That tracks with what I was told recently while shooting the breeze with an FFL, appears to be anywhere from 2-4 weeks.

When Judge Reitz (RIP) was on the bench I believe it was about ten calendar days.

How were you able to wait a year before making a purchase? I didn’t even wait an hour. And I bought 2 when I got there.

Believe me I was itching! Two kids starting college, and a new septic system convinced we to wait on the first purchase!! LOL. If i would have known the leadtime i would have definitely bought 2 at a time!!

I'm not a Glock guy so probably not the one to answer, lol.

That said, I am waiting on an M&P .45 that should ship out to me whenever my father in law gets off his ass, heh heh. Love that gun. Very comfortable and accurate (and I'm not a huge fan of plastic guns to begin with).

You will, of course, stand by to be shat upon by the .45 ACP naysayers. That's just the way it works around here.

I just got the 30S which has a thinner slide, but is pretty much the same thing / they take the same mags. I like it a lot and I was surprised how well it shoots. It's easier to shoot that my .40. The 30 should be even better with the increased weight of the thicker slide. Have you actually seen one in person? If you're thinking about carrying IWB it might be a bit much, but I know some people do it.

Last time I got an amend in Putnam took about 3 weeks I looked at the paperwork the clerk was holding and it was signed by the judge 3 days after I dropped it off . Bottleneck is probabaly I the clerks office or they just process them once a month.

I have a Gen 3 30. I carry it when i am in cities and towns. It concels well. I will say this. It is a bulldog. It is great for close defense but there is a lot of flash and it kicks up pretty good.

Saw mine the other day when I picked up the bill of sale. Defintely chunky, but I liked the way it felt in my hand. Very comfortable. Looking forward to gettin' some rounds through it!!! Brings me to my next question. Where's the best public range in the Westchester / Putnam area?
