Curious what you recommend store owners do to prevent this type of crash and grab?
Only thing I can think of is having more gun shop owners lock up all their gun inventory in safes each night but for any decent size shops that would be extremely time consuming and costly to have enough safe space.

Some do in fact put away ALL their guns even if they have a large inventory. Better safe than sorry. No pun intended. As a gun enthusiast I just feel bad for that guy that saved up all his pennies all year long to get his dream gun and had it transferred there only to be stolen by some scum fucker. Who knows how long it'll take to get it all straightened out with the FBI and the company they bought it from. Meanwhile he's out all the money he paid with nothing to show for it.
Very few if any large gun stores do this. It's a terrible business decision.
It's not just the cost of the safe, it's all the labor to take them out and put them away along with the cost of the extra damage to the firearms. There's also the issue of having enough extra space to keep the safes. The best system I've seen used is where the store had a safe room and built padded carts to transport around 40 handguns per trip. But that system still took a shit load of time. A large store with 500 handguns and 300 long guns, using the above system if they were able to place a firearm every 10 seconds it would take about 134 minutes to put them out and another 134 to put them away. If rounded up to 150 min (2 1/2 hours) it would take 5 hours of labor per day to take them out and put them away. That 5 hours of labor would cost about $100 a day times the 360 days/year they are open. It would cost 36K a year in labor, that's not even taking into account the damage to the firearms.
The fact is no system you place is going to stop someone from stealing your shit. You can waste your money and time trying or you can buy insurance.
First, have a fool proof alarm system. Then make it very hard to access the guns. Gates drawn across the long guns on the rack. Then gun cases with laminated glass that is difficult and time consuming to get into.
Multiple cameras inside and out with a feed to your home. Of course the alarm should go to your house as well as the alarm company. Gates across all your windows, like every Bodega in NYC.
Maybe a couple German Shepards for a deterrent.
It may be expensive but almost ALL guns stolen go to the crime world where people are killed.
Does this work? Go to the diamond district in NYC and see how far you get into one of their stores before you are dead or in handcuffs.

A few of these well embedded in the ground would probably work wonders

would make it more difficult to break in I had a small shop with only about 60 to 70 long guns & 10 to 15 hand guns in inventory at the most. I locked them up every night when I closed. I was broken into twice. Thank God no guns were stolen. A lot of other stuff was stolen though. I had a three safes a 42 & 2 24's. It was time consuming but well worth it.

Same mindset to strip the rights of the public because 2 bad guys did cowardly acts to people. I don't belive this is an option. The cost would be passed down to you us the consumer. Remember everything you pay for is adjusted price higher to pay for crooks thief's and liars.

Nonsense. Gun shops are targets for theft given their contents, failure to properly secure the guns makes the owner in part responsible for the loss. Liquor stores, gas stations, gun shops are targets for robbery, and it's ALWAYS been this way. As a business owner engaged in the sale of guns, not securing firearms properly is arguably NEGLIGENT behavior.

I suspect most people would agree with you on that point. I personally think that is a matter between the owner and his insurer.
Where the disagreement arises is in what constitutes "properly secured".

Curiously absent from your analysis is the cost of insurance, I guess this is a magical gun shop without the need for it.

Wrong Wrong Wrong. Why do people always feel the need to blame the victim. This is liberalism 101. I guess its also Negligent behavior if your car gets stolen after your house is broken into because you left your keys on the kitchen table.
All security measures you take can be easily defeated. Unless you spend $10,000+ on a massive jewelers safe a normal safe will be defeated in minutes with a battery operated grinder. Moving the guns back and forth takes time which = money and risk of damage on those firearms.
