I could envision NYS defining the locking lugs as an interrupted coarse thread just to get it on their list. I could also envision some enterprising manufacturers creating "evil" attachments to mate to the lugs. I like it and definitely would consider it, but I don't have high hopes in NYS.

If they didn’t define threads in the law then they can’t call these threads. Threads have a pitch and spacing as defined, but this has neither. IMO this would be good to go, but take my opinion for what it is.

How so? Flash suppressor, muzzle "break" or muzzle compensator are all evil features (provided semi automatic with ability to accept detachable mag) by themselves without regard to threaded barrel. Don't see this being legal under NY law.

Exactly. They left it open for interpretation...their own.

I'm with ya, looks fantastic to me, I hope it's GTG, but I always thought "shall not be infringed" was pretty damned clear too.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not arguing what should be, in that sense you are correct, but NYS doesn't care about should...do they?

But you can get a pistol ported thereby creating a compensating feature that is integral to the build (sans a separate device).

So what exactly is it that they care about? (Aside from creating turmoil)

Muzzle Devices on Pistols in NY - SAFE Act Website Incorrect/Custom Barrels OK

According to SAFE Act code, a pistol in NY is considered an assault weapon if, among other things, the pistol has a threaded barrel capable of accepting a muzzle break (brake?), flash suppressor, compensator, silencer, etc... Many of you know this already. I'd like to simply bring up two...

As far as I know a ported barrel is GTG I actual had a Glock 34C on my NYS permit with no issues. This is not same as what OP posted or what I responded to though. OP stated the FN compensator "may" be GTG in NYS due to lack of threaded barrel. I was simply pointing out that compensator is listed as evil feature regardless of whether barrel was threaded or not.

That's what I meant in my post to which you responded "good luck with that". I was confused. But I agree with you the 509 CC edge is likely going to be a no-go for NY.

No worries I thought you were saying you could have a ported barrel therefore the comp shown in OP would also be GTG. All good.

To be fair, I probably could have written it clearer. But yeah I think we agree, but I also think they would view the lugs as a potential attachment point for additional devices. These laws make no sense.

That’s semi auto rifles and this is a pistol. Pistols are assault weapons if they have one of the following.
  • A manufactured weight over 50 ounces unloaded
  • A folding or adjustable stock
  • A thumbhole stock
  • A foregrip or second pistol grip
  • A magazine that attaches outside of the pistol grip
  • A barrel shroud, or
  • A threaded barrel

Where does the safe act say a pistol can’t have a compensator or flash suppressor. The way I read it that is specific to rifles.
