Found this bullet at an estate sale

What rifle would this bullet fit?
.40 inch base. Weighs about 237 grains.

10mm, I think. 40 S&W is basically a 10mm short

It might be too long to load in 10 mm. If your looking for oal of 1.24 for cast.

Looks like a sinker to me. Never heard of a .40 muzzleloader and the dimensions are wrong for a handgun 10mm round. Perhaps a wierd old lever action chambering might have used a similar form factor.

It appears to be a picket bullet and is used in muzzleloaders. It requires a barrel with a faster twist than traditional patched ball barrels, but they were very accurate.
