So was the State lying when grocery store packers were prohibited from using a customer's reusable bags (because of potential Covid-19 infection pathway from handling the customer's used re-usable bags) or does the state not care about the health of its citizens?

Just like cutting down forests and plowing under fields to install solar panels and building roads to mountain tops to install wind turbines. No plan on how to replace them in 20 years. They're hoping someone comes up with a way to recycle them by then. Cause more pollution and environmental damage to build and install than what they purport to save. Same with electric vehicles

Processing paper takes a lot of energy and caustic chemicals, even if the raw ingredient literally "grows on trees".

I haven't seen anyone do the math on how many plastic bags worth of petroleum you have to burn to make a paper bag, but I am sure it's a lot.

And that doesn't even figure in the distribution costs.

How many truckloads of paper bags does it take to equal one truck of plastic ?

They quote the number of plastic bags because it sounds big, but they are individually so light as to be insignificant.

How many grocery trips does 100lbs of plastic bags cover compared to 100lbs of paper ?

I will say some has been good, DDT, Phosphate, etc.
If your old like me you know we killed the earth back in the late 60's, had a new ice age, melted the polar ice and everyone drowned. All the time adding more regulations, bureaucracy, (money skimming) because of feelings we need real information to make an educated decision.

Except they do have alternate ways to combat the mosquito populations that spread Malaria, that are as effective, and are less damaging to the bird's reproductive systems. As well as the reduction in damage to human systems from ingesting DDT or absorbing it through the skin.


And I do find it interesting that their suggestion to combat plastic bags is to use paper. I've seen what paper mills do to the environment. Even if you say the trees used were specifically grown for the purpose, the remaining processing is incredibly damaging. The only benefit you can reasonably claim is that they degrade somewhat quicker when thrown away, but then you have to use so much MORE of them.
Overall, a net loss.

And by not addressing other "single-use" plastics: plastic cups, plastic bubble (blister) packs...they demonstrate their indifference toward the environment. It's all about the businesses THEY control, vs. the ones the Conservatives traditionally control.

And, of course, for FUAC it's all about personal power.

I think FUAC should be the recipient of all the unused plastic bags. This is a good indicator of how they should be used.
