German war pistol value?

A friend has this pistol and is thinking of selling it but cant seem to get a handle on its value. It is currently on his permit. It came from his uncle who brought it back from WW2. It shoots very well. Any help on determining its value would be great.

Looks to be in amazing shape. The holster is even good. I have no idea on price, but it’s a beauty. I agree keep it.

I can’t wait to get my grandpas Walter p-38 from 1944-1945 made in an occupied French factory as WWII was ending. It has original officers holster and 2 spare original mags. The holster alone is $400, but I’ll never sell it. Serial numbers do not match because basically none do. The factory was getting bombed while making them. The quality is poor, but they are on the rare side and prices were just conned together to make any gun they could run. They made the guy who brought it back fill the barrel with lead. That guy gave it to my grandpa when they worked at GM together. My grandpa was apparently the best welder ever at GM and just heated the lead out. Probably not that hard, but it shoots good and I’ll be proud to own it.

It's amazing. I have just started getting into WWII Japanese stuff. As that generation passes away, families are just selling the stuff that was brought back rather than keeping it for the heritage and treasure it is.

BTW, beautiful pistol. At least you can get ammo for it if you ever think about shooting it. I have to have stuff made for my Japanese T26.

For value just set a search on GunBroker.

One has either sold recently, or will eventually.

If you look at Gunbroker, do a search on ended auctions. That will give you a better idea of what they actually sell for.

I would also recommend going to the appropriate discussion forum on gunboards.com. There are a lot of serious collectors and some experts there.

Totally agree! I've got a P 08 that my Dad took off a dead German soldier in Italy..... the only place that piece of history is going is to one of my sons when I cross the rainbow bridge!!!

Do you believe it is a model 1934 or is it one for sure? Asking for help pricing a gun without giving make/model/ showing all markings on it is usually futile.

According to one of my sources, the price can range anywhere from just above $250 to over $1,800 dependent on condition and markings - that is if it is the Mauser Model 1934. An additional source has them from about $125 to $1,200 dependent on markings and caliber.

Well to be honest I knew nothing about it when starting the thread... I was hoping someone would know these pistols and could share their knowledge.

I have found that it is a 1934 because of the hump on the grip. The caliber is shown in the pic 7.65 which is 32. I will have to post some more pics showing the stampings.

Here is some pic of the markings, it seem that they are important to its value. From what I have found I believe it is not a marine or a Japanese issues pistol but not 100% sure.

from kicking around the 655 is an army acceptance stamp 1 of 8,000. and the likely produced in 1940.

Not a Navy issue, does not have the right marking. Nor does it seem to be a German 'Police' issue.

I am not sure the one at this link was the same as or very similar to the one you have but it may be so. A very good description of the gun that was up for auction can be seen in that link. if it is the same as yours, will give you a good idea of the value.
