A NH permit (resident or nonresident) is no longer required in order to carry a loaded firearm in a vehicle. About the only thing it buys you while in NH anymore is the GFSZ exemption.

I figured I would research.
Man it is as confusing as the safe act.
So the pizza place is within 1000 feet of the school. Is that off limits?
If my gun is unloaded and locked in my truck at the school, is that ok?

I figured I would research.

I'm not a lawyer. I'm just an average Joe. Based upon my reading of the law:

No. Law does not apply if on private property not part of school grounds;

The gun must be unloaded AND locked in a rack or container.

The law states only that the firearm must be unloaded and locked in a rack or container. It says nothing of ammunition. It says nothing of how ammunition must be stored.


It's worth noting that there is a lot of discussion about this in New Hampshire right now, as it's Election season. Many polling places are in schools. Even though state law no longer requires a permit to carry open or concealed, federal law still requires a permit to be exempt from the GFSZA.
