On Holocaust Remembrance Day, I realized how I'd have to respond to a city council that was proposing to confiscate my firearms. I'd say something like this:
When I was younger, I did not appreciate history. I listened to the accounts told to me by Holocaust survivors. I cannot remember their names. That will forever by my shame. The time could come again when arms may be needed to stand against an evil regime. When agents of that regime come to my door to escort my family and I to the train station, I hope to resist. You hope to deprive me of my right...my last means to defend the lives of my family from certain death. Shame on you! Forever.
