gun rebluing...Who can restore a collectable?

A guy I work with has a higher end / collectible type rifle that has some corrosion/pitting on the receiver.

Who can restore / reblue the receiver?
He'll ship it out of state if necessary. Just wants it done right.

Tagging along for this. I've got an older shotgun that was given to me by my grandfather. It's older than I am and is showing it's age a bit.

I know alot of people around here use Neal Morrison from Ashville NY. Many collectors trust nobody else in these parts. He has no website, hes an oldtimer but you can google him.

I wouldn't even recommend sending it out. You can cold blue it yourself and it's beyond easy. I just bought the perma blue liquid bluing kit from a gift card and it was under $19 after tax. This is FUN, and I've used the pens for touch ups too, but the kit includes de-greaser, pads, brushes, rust remover, and the bluing agent in bottles. It's a VERY simple process and you can't really mess it up. All you're doing is cleaning it, wiping it on, wait a few minutes and wipe it off. You do that until the bluing is as dark as you'd like.

Bluing to high end standards is slow and complex. Midway, Brownells sell the setup but it it looks easier on video than it really is.
Now, if the firearm is not a collection gun and we just want to get rid of pitting and make it functional and repaired we can give a kit a go.
If the firearm is going back into a moist environment or outdoors hunting consider ceramic coating. That is the most durable finishing if done right along with nitrocarburizarion(melonite).
I guess it depends on the value of the gun, style and personal objectibes and preferences too.

I picked up a rather cheap Mosin a couple of years ago, wasn't in horrible condition. I bought it with the intentions of restoring it. I had never worked on a gun in regards to restoring. I figured, what the hell. I took it down to nothing. Cleaned the hell out of it and started on the stock. Once that was complete, I started on the metal. Overall, the gun turned our awesome, if I do say so myself. I was beyond happy with the way it turned out.

Again, this was only an inexpensive Mosin, not a collector type gun at all.

There is no doubting their work. If I had a really special firearm, I'd be willing to pay top dollar for them.

I've used east coast bluing for three guns so far. They reblued a prewar PPK for me and did a great job. The other two jobs were cerekotes. I would not hesitate to use them again.
