The past couple of years i have been picking up guns that I had durring my younger years that i got rid of for some reason or another.
I have picked up several, to start with here is one I have been trying to buy for a couple of years at a pawn shop. They had it hanging above the cash register area for ever. He didn' want to sell it, he hung it above the registet for decor. He gave up the pawn shop business last December because of to much stolen shit coming in from the druggies.
I kept bugging him about it for years. When he decided to give the business up he said I can buy it, $200.
Sure made my day. I had one like it a long time ago, maybe 45 years ago.



I will add more, you guys all have had guns decades ago that has some interesting stories.
Guns you had and got rid of and guns from back then and still have.

Let's see them, or hear the story anyways.

Wow. I totally forgot about that one. Someone I knew had one years ago and forgot about it till now. Wasn't it a rotating stock or something that allowed for a single .22?

First gun we owned and shot was a Mosin Nagant. We called it the elephant gun. I remember not being able to hit shot because I didn’t know how to properly aim down sights

First gun I ever owned, I still have . Remington 788 308 Carbine. Also had one in 223 and 7mm-08. My brother had one in 243. Wish I still had those, and my mini-14 ranch.

I lost Sooooo many of them. My all time cool looking fav was a double barrel Daisy bb gun shotgun. I had sooo many collectors from 60's... One of them was a slide action pump BB gun, like a shotgun, not like a 760 BB gun pump style. A nice 22cal Crossman bolt pellet with beautiful stock. Had allen screw to adjust CO2 power. Load at bolt, pull back by breach to charge it.

I still have my first BB gun my grandfather gave me when I was 8 or 9. I'll post a picture when I get a chance.

I have my Dad's bolt action .22 S/L/LR, that he got as a kid in the '30's, and that he taught me to shoot on. JC Penny or Sears Ranger... I guess I should research it a bit more, but it was the beat to shit corner gun mostly used to eradicate woodchucks living under the barn. It was a lot like the hammer that lived in the hot water closet; it was simply a useful tool.

EDIT: I just checked and it's a 103-2, sold by Sears, but made by Marlin as the model 80. I found one similar (but in MUCH better condition) here: Ranger Model 103-2 .22 S,L, Lr Bolt Action Rifle W/Sling (Marlin 80) - C&R Ok

Sounds like maybe a JC Higgins ? Sears.... Western Auto, JC penny etc... I had a JC Higgins semi auto shotgun, nice gun.

When I was growing up in the Binghamton area I use to spend summers down on Long Island, North Port. We use to go to Coney Island. They had the 22 shooting gallery. They used the actual gallery guns. Winchester 22 pumps chambered for 22 short only. My uncle was big into guns so I got to shoot there back in the day. They had a little chain on them so you couldn't swing them around, just towards the targets. I can't remember how much it was or how many bullets we got. But it was fun being a kid so to speak to shoot a "real gun".



I wanted one of them guns just for old time sakes, well a few years ago a guy had one on the local gun forum for $750 chambers for 22 S-L-LR, he was selling it for a neighbor. Every week.it went down $50. When it got down to $450 I sent him a PM.and offered him $400.
He sent a PM back and said wait a week then he will ask his neighbor.
Well a week went by and he sent me a PM and said OK.
I was happier then a pig in shit, I bought it and shot it every weekend I went shooting, only shorts though.
The one gravel pit I go to they shoot clay pigeons, the ones they miss or only half break are on the sand & gravel bank. I set my table up sixty-five yards away and shoot them full and half full clay pigeons with that gun with 22 shorts. That is a blast from the past.
I now have my seven year old grandson shooting them with that gun.
We took it out today and he shoot it at soda cans. He loads it all himself and shoots it on his own. It is a WINCHESTER 62A. I think it was made in 1942.

Some day I will buy an actual WINCHESTER gallery gun chambered in 22 SHORT ONLY.

I have other memory youth guns but each one has it's own story and will be told sepetatly.

That is pretty darn cool Highland!! Of all the guns I had, when I think of that one I can still remember the heft and feel the working of the action. It was a good shooter and awesomely fun to shoot. I bet your Grandson feels the same way!

My father then me and lastly my brother all killed our first game with a high standard 20ga. The gun is still in very good shape. In the 90s we had to have a machinist make a part for it, I cant remember what it was. I will try to sneak a picture today.

Ive got the first gun I ever bought.
Its a NEF single shot 12 gauge.
I bought it at Woolworth in 1987.
Killed an 8 point buck 2 days later with it.
I was 16 years old.

The barrel turns to load and unload the bullet. My grandson wanted to take it out to shoot yesterday.when I bought it I had it in a gun case to bring it home. When I showed him the gun he said
"They forgot to finish making the gun"
I got a good laugh out of that one. I have to adjust the sight on it, it was shooting a little off when we did shoot it. Shooting it brought back some good memories from forty-five years ago.
You never see these guns for sale, I have only see one other one for sale and they wanted $300 for it, to much for me. I was happy paying $200 for this one.
I will write up on my first 22 rifle I got all on my own. It was an old savage semi auto "Gill Gun"
I traded something or another for it. I got rid of it for something else I wanted, don't remember what I traded for it or what I traded it for.
I bought one from Cabelas a couple of years ago and I bought another from.a guy on the local gun forum.
I will take a pic later and tell about it.

My girlfriend inherited a Remington model 12 in 22 Special (WRF) in excellent condition. I wish it were chambered in S, L or LR but it isn't. The ammo is hard to find but is still available. I have 500 rnds so far. I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet.

I'd like to eventually reacquire a vintage Marlin model 60. That was my first rifle growing up. I eventually traded it along with a couple other rifles towards my first deer gun.

That would be easy to do out here in this area, there are several gun shows a month, a bunch of gun shops who sell used guns and then pawn shops where I found most of my good buys.
I picked up several guns on the local (state wide) hunting forum. I have been buying used reloading stuff on there lately.
A couple of the guns I bought were from gun broker. There are a bunch of outlets here.
Same for ammunition and reloading suppies.

Had a couple Rem Nylon 66, but those went to Gunner 57 LOST... Had a Ithaca Lever Single Super Slugster 3in mag 12 rifle sights Deer gun.

I had a nylon 66 years ago, didn't really care for it. One of my friends loved his. They are bringing close to $300 out here for one.

That Ithaca 66 - 12 gauge is a shoulder buster. I have several of the it have model 66 shotguns.
My brother back there wanted a set of 66 shotguns, I sent him a 410, he had a 20 gauge, a sent him the 12 gauge slugger and a Ithaca model 49 22lr lever single-shot.

I shot a deer one time with one of the 410 model 66s. I have a 20 gauge 66 with a vent rib that I used for rabbits back there, i had a pair of 12 inch beagles and one of my friends had a pair too. We killed lots of rabbits over the years. I really miss those days.
I see a 20 gauge 66 with a vent rib on gun broker a couple of weeks ago for $700 maybe $750. I can't remember exactly.

My grandson loves shooting the model 49 - 22lr. I have two or three of them. I buy them when they are priced right.

My first squirrel I shot was with my brothers 20 gauge 66 he got for X-Mas from our mom, our dad died young and she did the best she could to keep us in the woods. The squirrel.i got was at an uncle's farm, our oldest brother home on leave from Vietnam and took us hunting. He served three tours in Vietnam, he retired from the army and passed away three years ago this month. He would of been 71 this December.

At 14 years old I bought these two below.
A Remington Nylon 66 and the Mossberg 500 12ga.
I have had both of them for 40 years now... Man I am getting to be an old fart.

I like shooting shorts threw my old WINCHESTER. My grandson likes to mix them up between the shorts, longs and long rifles.

22 longs are a hit & miss item, $10 for a hundred pack just like the CCI shorts.

I’ve never sold a gun. I have all the bbs guns and real guns I’ve ever had. I lost the darts from my bbs gun though. Sad about that.

Can you still buy darts? I forgot all about them. We used them a little bit, but they were to expensive for us growing up.
Getting a 760 pump up Grossman was a huge step up in life back then. This old black man (Matt Austin) use to buy pigeons from us for a quarter a piece. We shot the pigeons under the 17/81 highway bridge above the railroad tracks in Binghamton. Rabbits were a dollar a piece.
Those were the good old days, a 16 ounce coke was cheap and candy bars were 5 cents.
A couple of pigeons and were were happier then a pig in a fresh shit pile.

When I got real guns then getting stuff was easy peasy, I user to take home bunches of squirrels and rabbits, occasionally a grouse.
When I was 12 or 13 I shot a four point buck with my old Mossberg 22 my mom bought me for Christmas in 1970.

I still have that 22 bolt action, I need a stock for it and I want to get it reblued.

Yes, chambered in 22lr. Not the most accurate plinker.....but fun none the less.

Looks higher end than what it is with it's polished nickel finish!

edit: actually, I think it's stainless not nickel. and it chambered in 22lr, short and long. I've gotta get it outta the safe and use it again, been preoccupied playing with my center fires......the rimmies have been neglected!!!!!

Here is an older fun gun, actually two of them.

Ithaca model 66 - 410 gauge lever break open single-shot.
And an old Ithaca model 49 - 22lr lever to drop the block to load it.
Both low priced guns back in the late 60s to mid 70s.

When I took my grand son out shooting we took tjem for him to shoot.
I'm sure many of you have had one some time or another or used one in your younger years.


The one on the left is the 410, the one on the right is the 22lr.
Both accurate fun shooting guns.

Here is a picture of mason shooting the 410.




I had these back in the day and still have several.of them.

I'll post another youth gun after we get out and shoot one. There are several of them to write about.

I have that same .410, my dad bought it for me when I was about 9-10. The finish is worn off on the edges but otherwise shoots good. Took a ton of squirrel and rabbits with it.
