Carlos Hathcock
.450/400 Nitro Ex
So I wrote another version of this a couple weeks ago, and couldn't post it as I was having issue logging on from my desktop. Thought I had saved it somewhere but now I can't find it.....or my wife read it and deleted it. So anyway.....
I grew up shooting with my dad, uncle, and grandfather. Couldn't wait for the next time we were headed to gramps cabin because I knew it was a chance to do some plinking with the .22's. Once I got into high school / college, shooting sports fell by the wayside, parents divorced, yada, yada, yada. I got my permit some years ago, did some shooting when I had time, but none of my friends were really into it and I lost interest and time. A couple years ago I ran into a college buddy I had lost touch with for almost 20 years. Turns out he'd been into shooting for quite some time and he's been busy during our time away.
He and his father had always hunted and I always said I wanted to, but never got around to getting my course and license. Now that I had someone to hunt with, I got right on it. My second year hunting and now my buddy and I shoot as often as our schedules allow. I love hunting and look at the fall season through different eyes.
One other thing I never did in my entire life, until recently, was vote....for anything.....ever. I didn't even know what party I should belong to. I never thought my one vote would matter but with crooked Hillary looming, I didn't want to take the chance she'd win by the one vote I never cast. I doubt anyone here would argue the fact that things have changed. I can honestly say I fear for the future, for my wife and son, and for our country. I don't think I'm alone when I say the phrase "from my cold dead hands" is more than just words. I don't think I really put alot of thought to what the 2nd amendment was truly about, but I now realize it's more than just hunters keeping hunting rifles and rednecks blasting old cars to bits.
I know people on here have their own opinions about the NRA and what it does, or has done. I'm not here to debate or get into a pissing match about it. I do however think that changing what we're fed up with has more to do with who we send our money to so they can lobby in Washington, or wherever. I'm in that territory again where I don't want to sit back, hope that those who have our best interests in mind are taking care of things, and we watch and wait to see how it all shakes out. I'm a law abiding, working, taxpaying citizen who doesn't want to watch my way of life and my rights erode from under my feet by those who feel just because they don't "like or believe" in what I do gives them the right to change the way I live and take my rights away from me.
The more I pay attention to politicians, and not just Prince Monkeyface, I'm disgusted by how they seem to be allowed to run the country, state, town, burb, whatever, the way they feel and spend taxpayer money without permission or consequence. They force their personal opinions on the masses and do so without a thought of the public good. They don't understand the meaning of "public office".
That being said, I'm looking for a couple things out of this.
1. If the NRA isn't the answer to help gun owners, then who is. I'm talking on the sate and national levels.
2. While I hate all politicians in general, I wan to do what I can to stop the Libocrats from doing any more damage than they already have.
Like most of you, I don't have a ton of money to spend on this, nor a ton of time. I do want to do something. You can call it misguided anger or whatever but I want to do something. I also want to see others on here do something too. I'm not saying you need to go blasting up an ANTIFA rally but at minimum, case a vote for the lesser of the evils. Don't site in the easy chair on the smart phone and months or years from now wish you could've done something to save your rights and you way of life. Help me to help you.
