HELP! mossberg 590 is stuck

Let me first start by saying i really have no knowledge when it comes to shotguns but i do have a mossberg 590, now i need your help guys, I was planning on cleaning my shotgun today, i started by taking out the barrel, and then i was about to take out the bolt, somehow the bolt got stuck forward, i pressed the release and trying to rack it back and still nothing. i then took out the trigger group.

now i think this is where it gets stuck. this part where i encircled it hits the bolt.



any advice would be greatly appreciated!

This is one of those things that I feel like if I had it in my hands I could work it out quick (by which I do not mean to insult your own abilities in any way, just that taking guns apart and putting them back together is.. you know.. what I do)

So, the bit you have circled. I'm trying to figure out if that's your ejector. Can you push on it, horizontally toward the side of the gun it's on, and does it have some spring tension ? If it is, and does , and also if it really is the thing blocking the bolt (I'm not certain it is) , then you should be able to hold it pushed out and pull the bolt and carrier back through.

To get the barrel off you would have had to have the bolt halfway back. Then you'd remove the trigger group then the cartridge interrupter and cartridge stop and finally the bolt carriage before you can slide the bolt out of the receiver.
It seems you don't want to slide the bolt forward before you do remove all of those parts. You may want to reassemble it and start over.

it wont move at all, no spring tension whatsoever. you may be right that its not the thing thats holding it back, i feel like its somewhere inside the bolt thats keeping it from moving back

i reassembled it again earlier and the bolt is still stuck,

The piece that you circled is screwed into the receiver and you can't unscrew it without moving the bolt out of the way. I just disassembled my 500 and I was able to pull the forestock/pump off and out of the receiver. Then I was able to take the bolt carriage out and just slide the bolt forward out of the receiver. It may be that your bolt is out of alignment and is therefor getting hung up on the piece you circled when you try to move it. If you haven't yet, try sliding the pump out and seeing if you can wiggle the bolt carriage off and slide the bolt out.

Really ? I wasn't sure at all that's what was holding it back but.. I mean.. that has to be the ejector there, right ? It doesn't make any sense if it cant be pushed down.

In this pic the ejector is properly in the grove of the bolt that is fully to the rear. It takes a little force, but if I were to push down flat on the tip of it, which I think is what you have circled, it will flex down.

It is difficult to tell from the pics if the bolt came off the slide and/or the slide came off the action bars.

It's because it can flex down that you can potentially push the bolt past it, but possibly not back without pushing it in.

Mossbergs aren't that complicated. You remove the barrel, and the trigger group by removing the pin. Then, the left side and right side parts come out (cartridge stop, and other, can't remember official names. There are recesses in receiver that will only allow the bolt and slide to be extracted/replaced in one set position so they set into recesses cut into the action bars. Since it's 'stuck' you may have to use a little 'elbow grease' with you fingers or a light tap with a non metallic mallet or wood to encourage it to budge. Shouldn"t hurt anything if you're careful.

lots of you tube vids on the moss take down .. just not for my 30 + yr old 500AT .. to get the for arm (pump) off i had to unscrew the mag tube . LOL ..
there is a tack welded spring on the mag tube that would not allow it to just slid off like the newer 500's ..

watch a few vids .. you will get it ..
