Herkimer-area, Ferris Lake Wild Forest

Is anyone familiar with this part of the Adirondacks? I am hoping to go look at a piece of property there next weekend. I am highly interested as it appears to be extremely isolated but not too far off of I-90. It’s about 4 1/2 hours of driving for me.

My sister had a friend from Herkimer when we were in grade school. She used to wear a tee shirt that said "Where the hell is Herkimer". That was over 45 years ago and I never forgot it.

I was going to ask "Haven't you ever heard of the Herkimer Diamond mines" But I guess you have.

I have been to the Herkimer diamond mine twice within the last couple of years. We stayed in a cabin at the KOA campground across from the mines. There was really nothing to do in the area except tubing on the river next to the campground and eating at the Empire Diner in town, which has excellent breakfast and burgers.

Never heard of the Herkimer Diamond mines??? They have been there for decades. I brought my kids there when they were young to dig in the dirt and stones for Herkimer Diamonds. They have and make jewelry out of the diamonds found in their mines. As far as Herkimer being in the Adirondacks, it isn’t really. More like the foothills , maybe. I used to hunt out of the Gloversville area ( a little farther east and North ) 25 years ago and that area was considered the foothills back then.@Airborneguy, Look for property in the Dolgeville area. There is some nice remove locations in that area.

Oh, lol I was gonna say, how could you be from the area and not hear of that place. When @Airborneguy posted Herkimer area it kind of threw me off. The area that is asking about isn’t really all that close to Herkimer. Ferris Lake WF is actually just inside the ADK park
