High natural gas prices leading to lower fertilizer production. Perfect storm on the horizon?

I see bad, bad things coming. We have high inflation now just wait. The high natural gas prices will lead to high electricity prices, and lead to high fertilizer prices, causing food prices to increase. Add into that high housing and gasoline prices and I think we’re headed for the perfect storm. I think we’re kind of screwed. This is very bad timing with my son going to college soon.

Don't forget the #1 and #5 grain exporters are probably not going to be on the market soon either.

No matter what happens in Ukraine now, I can't see them getting a decent crop in the ground in time for this season.

As far as wheat... more than 95 percent of Ukraine's crop is winter wheat and it was already in the ground before the conflict began. The fate of that crop is more likely to be determined by spring rains than war,

My neighbor's son wants to go to college, but with what is going on, him and his parents are considering waiting this out or focusing on more important activities that deals with family.

If all this pans out, I expect folks stepping back from these luxuries of going to college and other activities we all take for granted. Yeah it sounds unfair, but that's the way it is.

We were told to expect at minimum 1,000.00$ a ton for fertilizer this spring.
But most likely more .

For reference last year our average cost was 415.00$

not growing any field corn and cutting back on some of the more labor intensive crops. I personally hate growing less as I can usually move all that we produce. But I’m afraid that with these huge increases in input costs coupled with the absolutely ridiculous farm labor laws in NYS that don’t exist in pa the competition is gonna be stiff.

You should see what the backup generators at an internet exchange take.

Got a report from one of the ones in Miami before a major hurricane. They assured us they had visually verified the fuel levels in their tanks. 243,000 gallons. Enough to last 3 days.

They also had contracts to keep them resupplied indefinitely in the event of a catastrophe.
