I remember reading an article on this gun pre-internet and was very impressed. While At the time I felt a sense of mourning for traditional rifle, I thought it was a huge step in the evolution of the battle rifle.

There are a variety of technical issues with caseless ammunition that, as Ian pointed out, prevents it from achieving widespread use.
I believe that these limitations will sooner or later be overcome. In WWII Germany made extensive use of semi caseless ammunition in many of there heavy caliber aircraft mounted autocannons. In these types a metallic rim was affixed to the solid propellant body. Ignition was electrical.
