Holosun QD mounts, do they suck?

Just bought a 515 that was unbelievably on sale on Midway, it's on my doorstep now, waiting for me. Now I have heard from a few different sources that Holosun's QD mount is not the best, does anyone have any experience with them? Would I be better off replacing it straight off? Ordinarily I'd give it a shot and see how it did after a shakedown period. Now however with my defensive ammo of choice being largely unavailable I am loathe to have to zero on the the factory mount only to have to re-zero on a replacement mount.

I cant remember what Aaron said specifically about the oem mount



But I know it survived the 2,000 round review process (so 4 shoulder height drop tests) and iirc he stuck with the OEM mount

It didn't though. Right in the beginning he shows the riser separating from the base. The optic popped off the rifle like a frog jumping from a lillypad

To be fair. Scar 17 is the optic and mount killer.

But I would probably to be on the safe side go with a quality US made mount (it's aimpoint footprint yes?)

Yes. I have an eye towards the Midwest mount. $80 for a lower 1/3 co-witnesses

I’ve honestly only ever run their mounts long enough to get a quality mount, if I don’t have one ready to go already. After mounting one (I can’t remember which model it was) I remember thinking to myself that the screws were “Ehhh” and how it felt while torquing them down, that the mount itself was eventuallly going to loosen from the rail. Plus for myself they are pretty ugly of a mount from the beginning, which makes it a pretty easy choice to want to swap to a more solid aesthetically pleasing mount. The Reptilia Corp Dot Mount is a nice choice but there’s plenty of nice options out there.

Allright, given your input atop all the other stuff I have seen/read I will be replacing the OEM mount. I won't bother even swapping out the sight until I get one. This is going on my HD gun so it's important that everything is solid. I prolly be replacing the light with a Modlight soon too.

Couple a' unrelated questions for you two-
Notice the pic rail segment up front there?
That's for the bipod, would it be better behind the hand stop?
Also, do you find the dot or circle dot reticle more useful? Just the dot is cleaner but I wonder if the circle can be useful for close range offset holds.

Centurion arms handguard... nice choice

Yes I like, is very nice! I think it's one of the best handguards on the market, tougher than the BCM, lighter than the Giselle, simpler than the Daniel Defense while cheaper than all but the BCM.

Now that I think about it there are a few other non-value luxury items on there. The Giselle charging handle and the Sionics NP3 BCG.
Incidentally our buddy at School of the American Rifle as done three physicals on Sionics BCGs and all three came up aces.

Also yea the Centurion handguard was I think 3rd ish on my list of what I wanted then some dude gave me a good deal on a Geissele Mk8

Honestly it's just there for bench shooting so probably yeah. That's why I spent tge extra for a good QD mount for the bipod, so I can switch things around as the situation calls for it.

Out front gives the best stability but mounting it closer in gives better flexibility for traversing and such.

If it’s going to be mainly for bench shooting when you’re using the bipod, I’d say put the bipod as far forward as possible. With it all the way forward is where it will give you the most stability.

That's shitty alright. There are other equivalent options. Keep an eye out for the fully chromed Daniel Defense BCG, it is/was (who knows these days) similarly priced.
