Hey guys, some of you know I'm a mod for a NC gun forum, but I like to read what y'all are doing up here too.

I've put together a meet and greet for our group and thought some of you might like to attend as well.

Thanks to all who were able to attend Friday’s digital meeting with Marty Hayes from the Armed Citizens Legal Defense Network.

I came away from the meeting with a different view of carry insurance or, in the case of the ACLDN, their carry promise of coming to your aid after a defensive shooting.

If you decide to purchase carry insurance or a carry promise from any group, be aware there are limitations and caveats to what they will and will not cover. The ACLDN will not distInguish carry non-compliance issues from lawful self-defense. For example, if you are somewhere with your gun that is forbidden by law (more than just trespassing), you have lost your “mantle of innocence” and they will not come to your aid. Likewise, if you decide to fire the first shot of the 2nd American Revolution when the Left comes to confiscate your guns and expect the ACLDN to fulfill their promise, you again will be disappointed.

i was surprised by the few number of cases they have had in comparison to their membership numbers (17,000+). Maybe the extraordinary amount of training material you are provided upon membership plays a critical role in preventing your use of deadly force. You know when to hold ‘em and when to fold ‘em as the old song goes. Either way, despite carrying 24/7, I hope I never have to use my weapon and I try to minimize going to stupid places with stupid people at stupid times doing stupid things that would only increase of my odds of a gun fight.

To close, Marty carries a Nighthawk 1911 9MM as his EDC. Must be nice!

Thanks for coordinating the meeting. I was able to join for most of it and I was also surprised about the limitations on coverage. I did not come away from the call confident that the network would cover you if you were carrying against a sign that did not have force of law. Marty was unclear/evasive.

I don’t know if it’s good or bad that none of the few cases they have had have gone to trial. Maybe it’s a good thing that charges got dismissed off the bat because the person acted lawfully. I had hoped to come away thinking that this was a no brainer. While it’s probably a good thing to have I’m not so sure anymore
