HOW WILL A POTENTIAL BUMP STOCK BAN IMPACT NEW YORK?

ALBANY, N.Y. -- A potential national ban on bump stocks by President Donald Trump comes as lawmakers in New York over the last several months have pushed the issue. But for supporters of gun rights, the issue misses the point of protecting students in schools from the next mass shooting.
“The problem is not going to go away by taking bump stocks away and assault weapons away. The problem is the schools are soft targets and no one is willing to do anything to address the problem of protecting the children in the schools,” said New York State Rifle and Pistol Association President Tom King.
In New York, it is illegal to attach a bump stock to a weapon in order to have it mimic automatic fire. But lawmakers say there's a loophole in that it can be possessed or sold and they want to close that.
Other legislators have called for police to be stationed in schools to guard against a shooting.
