I'm going to start a tutorial on how to make a rifle sling from items purchased on Ebay. I'll show a sewn version and a no-sew option.
This is similar to a Proctor Way of The Gun sling.
I'll probably post in installments and break up the threads for phone users.
It looks like with 72" of webbing there is excess. I'll rig up a rifle and see how much is left hanging.
If you want a wider sling, get 1.5" webbing and hardware.
Items needed:
Webbing : I use 1" / 25mm Mil Spec webbing. Sewn version uses 72" no-sew 74"
Hardware: ( 1) 1" Wide mouth Tri-Glide and (1) 1" Tri-Glide . If you do a no-sew, a 2nd 1" triglide is needed.
Tri-glides can be listed on Ebay as " Backpack Strap Sliders "
I used upholstery thread as it is heavier duty. My sewing machine does not like the heavy thread on the bobbin . I think the two together are too slippery so I used the regular thread below and the heavy thread above.
The last dozen that I've made, I hand sewed the large Tri-Glide onto the webbing.
If you choose to use the "Ranger Style" Para cord attachment , you will need:
25" para cord, gutted ( pull out the inner strands of string) It makes a 9.5" loop.
21" Para cord gutted to make a 6"ish loop.
D-ring
Electrical heat shrink tubing to seal the knot. I used 3/8" I.D .
Short plastic tube that is 9/64" Inner diameter to help lock it in place.
