Over the 15 years that Ive had a 204 this has never even came close to happening. Though It did last night.
Every time I go chuck hunting I carry a chest bag with my bino's and rangefinder in it. This bag has 2 side pockets where I carry a few extra rounds that I might need besides the ones in my mag.
After Im done chuck hunting I pull the rounds out of the bag and put them back in my plastic cases that I use when I reload.
Last night I took my 204 with me hunting and did my usual with my ammo. Few in the mag, few in the bag.
So I see this chuck at about 450yds and figured I would shoot because we werent seeing anything close because the grass is getting long again.
I shoot and I could see that I hit about a foot in front of him. He moves a little bit but offers me the chance to shoot again. So I clicked up .25 moa and shot again. This time I wasnt stable enough but my distance was perfect and I hit about 1 inch to the left of him. He moved about 4ft but gave me another chance.
I setup again, lightly pulled the trigger but got nothing but a click. I discharged the round and looked at it. No firing pin marks. Huh?
So I sighted in again and pulled the trigger,,, click. WTF............So I discharged the round and looked at it again. No firing pin marks.
So I pulled the bolt out and then pulled the firing pin out to see if it was broken. Looks good to me.
I decided to put the rounds back in and try again. As soon as I was about to put the rounds back in I noticed the bullets looked a tad fatter.
I was like holey shit these are 223 rounds.
I all of a sudden was feeling like a cat with 9 lives. Im like that could of been really bad if they would of went off.
We packed our shit and left. We made it about 100yds down the road to a railroad crossing. We were going to cross and check another one of Zubers fields because the hay was just recently cut.
The gate lights turned on and they were just starting to move and my buddy was like punch it. I instantly hit my brakes and said Fuck That,,, I used all my luck up for the day
My accident............ I pulled my 223 rounds out of the bag the last time I used my 204 a week ago and put them in my 204 box. So yesterday when I went out with the 204, I loaded 223 into the gun first and then 204 rounds on top of them. Shot the 204 and then the remaining 2 were click, click,,,
