Don't really see the appeal to the 7.5FK, but I prefer sectional density and momentum over speed and energy in a handgun, especially a hunting handgun. That said, with a 9mm and a 10mm barrel included with an apparently very well-constructed firearm for $1,700, it's a good deal. Hell, a Glock with two extra barrels, mags, and a few upgrades can get you over $1,000 pretty quick.
It's definitely a capable hunting round, but the 7.5FK and .44 magnum have totally different ballistics. The energy is in the ballpark (a lil less than my moderate handload with a 200 grain bullet around 1400 fps), but Remington's original factory spec is a 240 grain lead bullet at 1400 fps, which handily beats the 7.5 in energy and crushes it when it comes to momentum. The .44 is a deeper penetrating, bone crushing round that makes a bigger hole. A closer comparison, I think, would be comparing it to a .30 carbine.I have watched the original videos of the first pistol they released, they were droping real decent size deer or whatever it was (cant remember off the top of my head) at 75y.. iirc the 7.5 is pretty much .44mag ballistics in a semiautomatic (similar to the idea .357sig or 10mm trying to be .357mag but I believe the 7.5 comes closer as the gun was built around the cartridge vs trying to make say a glock 19 hit as hard as a .357mag)
Military Arms Channel just released a video on this (on Patreon, going public in a few days I'd reckon) - he was sent the new PSD free of charge.
It was pockmarking one of his steel targets that was only rated for handgun, but the recoil didn't seem that bad. He also has a video showing it against watermelons but I haven't watched that one yet. He plans to test it against body armor also.
Certainly an interesting round!
edit: 800pm - I watched the armor testing vid - spoilers!
Defeated soft armor, but IIIA hard armor stopped it, with some back face deformation. You'd live from the two shots he did, but you'd hurt for a while.. The cavity shot on the pork ribs+watermelon was impressive!
