The mayor, whatever, he went to the hospital and saw the guy that was "shot". Deputy says he was in pain. Sure, the mayor would repeat that, he is no doctor, not really sure if he would have looked close enough to see it was not a bullet wound.
This Deputy, should in fact face serious charges. A huge fine, that he can spend the rest of his life paying, to reimburse for the overtime and other resources that went into this incident.

If this was some big conspiracy to push gun control they wouldn't have f* it up.
This was one guy looking for attention, and a whole bunch of people who individually jump on anything they can to support gun control.
It doesn't require a conspiracy to get a bunch of people to all work together, if they all have the same goal and all see the same opportunity.
A good example would be throwing bundles of cash into a crowded street to confound people chasing you. Hundreds of people will rush into the street all at once blocking your pursuers, but it doesn't mean they were conspiring to help you.
