Sorry, not sure what the technical term for this is or even if there is one. Long story short, a few weeks ago I was shooting my Mini-14 and I must've loaded a cartridge in the magazine wrong or something because when I released the bolt it slammed but did not go into battery. I almost couldn't get the bolt back open or the magazine out. When I did I this cartridge came out with the bullet pressed deeper into the cartridge than normal. It must've gotten pressed in there when I released the bolt the cartridge was not in the magazine properly and did not enter the chamber. That's my theory anyway either that or I didn't notice anything wrong when I was loading the magazine.
My question is is this safe to shoot? If not, what's the proper way to dispose of ammunition? It's never been fired and the primer is still intact.
I've actually been very lucky with ammo quality (both factory and reloads). Only other issue I've ever had is once I had a 9mm round not fire. The hammer clearly struck the primer but it did not go off. Wound up tossing that round in the woods.
Below is a photo of what I'm talking about. The impacted cartridge is on the left and a normal round is on the right for comparison purposes.
