This is kinda interesting if you take into consideration our threads of the grid going down and certain players who want to do it.

Idiots, watch what happens when deer and buffalo yard up.Just came across this
Official Washington flocking to Doomsday Camps
Its a survival bunker (similar concept to where the Washington elites will be secured) but is capable for regular people to buy into a unit.
Interestingly....many members are from the 3letter agencies. They know something is up and are trying to save themselves as well.
I just find this stuff interesting, not that I'm concerned about anything happening. Some facts to consider though, our magnetic field around the Earth IS weakening, which makes us much more susceptible to a solar flair taking out our electric grid. It's not a doomsday thing, just a natural cycle the Earth goes through.Scenarios, scenarios, everywhere a man can go go, there's another doomsday scenario.
Take your own pulse, think for yourself.

This guy covers this stuff a lot and gets into some really interesting topics.Sure yea, I'm not suggesting electrical issues won't be a problem, just from what I've seen I have no idea whether or not these sort of events will happen rapidly or on the scale of 1000s of years, which totally changes exactly what the problems are.
Will be upfront though I am absolutely speaking out of my ass. I'm a biologist, not a geoscientist
Yea, that was fascinating, thanks for posting that. Definitely eye opening. This guy covers this stuff a lot and gets into some really interesting topics.
Even more eye opening is when you realize just how vulnerable we are to long term problems. Virtually everything we use every day is connected to the electric grid or otherwise hardwired (telephone lines, Internet, etc), and how many spares we have to repair damages. Most notably our large transformers. Even our cars for the most part could be permanently disabled by a strong enough CME and a weakened field. Buy military surplus goodies lol.Yea, that was fascinating, thanks for posting that. Definitely eye opening.

Yea I'm new to both this forum and NY state in general.I haven't seen you posting much in this forum before.

Thanks for the book and the video. For some reason the vid's not playing though, could you post the name and I'll try to find it on youtube? Its insane to think about what would happen if the grid went down. Most people can't go 1 hr without their phone.

Added both books you linked to the cart. Thanks for the recommendations. Need to educate myself further on this issue clearly. Very much so appreciate your resources. If you really want to know what would happen in "anytown USA" to random citizens if an EMP hit, read the book "one second after" it will change the way you view the world. If you like it there are 2 sequels in that series.
Well, after reading these links I'm convinced.

Onondaga but I can look into whether or not Syracuse's library will transfer. Probably so.Not sure where you live...but if your in western NY the Erie county library system has many of these books you can borrow for free or a small transfer request fee
I hear ya, my wife is getting more on board now though. See hates being without electric, and we've lost electric a lot just due to storms. Now evenmore of an issue because she needs her O2 concentrator. She has back up tanks but they only last so long. My truck was an easy buy. I needed a bigger truck anyway so going military surplus was a huge benefit. They've been making them EMP hardened for quite a while which makes it more resistant to CMEs. I also decided to upgrade from my old laptop, my new one is a General Dynamics (military contract) and is EMP hardened. Not going to be useful for the internet when it goes but I can store a ton of info on it and also use it for comms via HAM radio. Can connect it with my Icom ID5100 for using D-Rats and D-Star sending images and GPS information.Yea I'm new to both this forum and NY state in general.

I see. Milsurp goes beyond just weaponry and various survival accessories huh. I didn’t consider that, going to look into other more common day to day goods.I hear ya, my wife is getting more on board now though. Once we get set up at new property this spring I'll be working at getting a surplus military generator. So basically just getting thing that I can use today, but be very helpful for a SHTF event.
Well, figure that if we need it so does the military. They rotate stock every so often and discontinue other for new replacements. Then they auction everything off. Sometimes you can get killer deals. Watch local auctions also, a lot of times milsurp goodies will show up there. I see generators a lot. I was stupid last year and decided not to bid on a M101A2 trailer that was in outstanding condition. It went for $400!!! I ever day over that. It was the correct trailer for my truck and in my price range. New top, new bows, new tires, not rotted out.I see. Milsurp goes beyond just weaponry and various survival accessories huh. Forgive my niaviety it’s why I joined here in the first place. Most of what I’ve practiced/cultivated for skills up until now has been more outdoor survival type stuff. Gardening, foraging, how to build shelters out in the woods. Stuff like that.
