Is the Kel-Tec Su 16 NY legal

i tried posting the question on the buds gun shop answer page but got no real answer. I was told by The guy answering the question , who was not buds gun shop staff that it was illegal because of its stock. But saw on various other forums that only the models that don't fire when folded are ok.and even on prepped gun shop I saw the same thing(. They had none in stock) I just wanted clarification as I was looking to purchase one from buds.

Depends on the variant.

At first glance whenever I see this question about any rifle this far into SAFE I generally just sigh and facepalm. I mean , you've got a list of features and it either does or doesn't have any of those features.
However, that said, I can see why people could potentially still get hung up on this particular gun; specifically because there isn't any clarification if what the gun does could be defined as, "(1) a folding or telescoping stock".

It isn't though. This gun disassembles into two separate sections, and happens to have a hinge that keeps those sections together. The stock , when the gun is assembled, is a fixed stock.

Having said that, there are a bunch of different SU-16 variants and most of them are not NY legal. That isn't because of the stock, but because of the threaded barrel (with the exception of the 16E which I believe also has a pistol grip and an actual telescoping/adjustable stock). So the SU-16A and SU-16B are NY legal , the rest aren't. Because of that, I wouldn't be surprised if buds will not sell you any variant. They're kind of known for that.

On a completely secondary note, all legality issues cleared up,... don't bother, the gun is crap.

There is also the SU-16CA model which is also NY compliant.

and Buds wouldnt sell me a revolver because it weighed more than 50oz. Soo let that sink in.

According to the Kel-Tec site every model except the A and B are threaded barrels. The C and CA just have different stocks.

Consider the Ruger Mini 14 instead.

Gun stinks. Receiver is made of a polymer that is not as robust as other polymers. It cannot withstand the impact of the bolt hitting the rear. If your funds are limited it is better to get a used NYS legal AR.

I have seen several at my club.
The gun may be ugly betty , but functions flawlessly out of the box.
Eats both steel cased and brass, never seen a FTF.
The iron sights are good for as long as your eyes are.
Very light, and innovative with the hand guard bipod and mag storage in stock.
I don't get the hate, but you know what they say about opinions.
