We all know that the federal gov’t is too big and out of control. So, how to control it? How to make is more answerable to the people again? There are many possible solutions - all of which should be looked at. But, the idea of taking back local authority - on the state or evcen the county level is an important one. Consolidation of power at the federal level is what has allowed this cesspool of corruption to gain so much influence. So, I had an idea. It may be a stupid one, I don’t know. But here it is:
Turn the collection and processing of all taxes over to local or even state governments. Have county or state authorities collect and pay federal taxes to Washington and in so doing get rid of the IRS. Making payments via states and counties gives them far more leverage with the federal gov’t than any individual or even group of individuals could have. It would also bring control of the taxing authority closer to “we the people” and (theoretically) make it easier to monitor and control. The states could more easily get together and choke off the supply of money to the federal gov’t if needed, and if the feds threatened to cut off money to the states for their actions - who cares? The states/counties would already have the money.
Is there a chance this idea, if implemented could totally blow up? Absolutely (FUAC?)!!! It was just an idea that occurred to me as being something that might help if well implemented. Also, rather than organizing a “tax revolt” that would never succeed because the IRS would come after everyone involved - if the counties/states collected the money and held it “in escrow” there is no one for the IRS to come after. Again, YES this could be a stupid idea, so spare me the “that’s a stupid idea” posts. It’s just something to think about and maybe expand on.
