That's a blank pistol he's using. The spent gas goes through a port located on the top of the beretta barrel or usually on the side ejection port/chambering on the barrel. Real guns don't send out the muzzle flash and big sparks like that through the side of the gun unless the barrel explodes or something. There's no muzzle flash whatsoever and usually the barrels are plugged with a set screw and cap. Also, when the spent blank hits the floor, it's more of a "thud" noise because these 9mm pak blanks are heavy with a wall of plastic inside to keep them from making that typical brass metal "ting" noise as the fall on the floor.
