A while back I purchased the KS6 with the internal hammer. (The one on the left) Now I am looking at the 3” model da/sa with the exposed hammer. This would make the set complete. Any opinions?
While I do have at least something of a reputation as of one of the resident revolver guys, that's really an S&W (Since S&W trigger work is kinda my specialty thing), some Colt, and maybe a tiny 'lil bit of Ruger thing. I've never even handled one of the Kimber wheelguns, so I can't say much of anything about them other than they do look pretty and I've heard some good things.
One thing I will admit to right now (and maybe for the first time, here in your thread) is that I've been brutally and straight up unfair to Kimber for a lot of years now. There was a time (some here might remember) when Kimber was in the middle of some major transitions and it was well known that they had some serious quality control issues that they REALLY didn't want at all to cop to. That period left a very sour taste in my mouth for Kimber, and I've never really given them any place to redeem themselves in my.. I dunno.. er.. heart.. of guns.. or something.
I'm not even saying really I've changed my mind (because I'm a stubborn 'ol cuss), buuuut I will say that at least from what I've heard, from shooters who I trust to know what they are talking about, I should probably let old grudges die. (Still f**k HK and absolutely positively MOST of all Magnum Research though. I'm willing to give a little on old grudges.. but not THAT much.)
If you like the 2 inch with the internal hammer, you'll probably like the larger one. There isn't a huge difference between the two, honestly.
The DA trigger is excellent just like on the DAO model. The larger grip and slightly more weight make full-power .357 Mag a little more comfortable to shoot. You have the option to shoot SA and you'll get slightly better ballistics from the longer barrel.
I mean, if you want to collect Kimber revolvers, go for it.
If you want it for practical purposes, I don't think it does anything the 2" hammerless doesn't. Without adjustable sights, it's not much of a target gun, 1 extra inch of barrel is a tiny ballistic improvement in .357, the hammer just adds something to snag on clothes if it's for concealed carry, and the revolver itself isn't really any more shootable, it just has a better grip.
If it's for an practical use, I think the one of the two 4" DA/SA model with adjustable sights would be a much better option.
