Just when I thought Kingston couldn't become any shittier.
Or tacos??Lovely. My main office is in Kingston and have to go there frequently. I guess I better be strapped and have an extra piece in the car at the ready.
Well put.Kingston is a dying city. IBM left and the collapse began. It is a community of retail supporting retail. Unfortunately it's location is such that it attracts no outside money. The 'mall' has lost it's anchor stores except for sears and sears will not be there much longer. Christmas before last I was up in the mall a week before Christmas. There were fewer people walking around than at the Poughkeepsie Galleria during off season on a bad day. Property values have been declining for years. It's sad. Once upon a time it was a nice place to live. But, like so many other towns/villages, poor decisions have put it where it is. After IBM left, several large companies looked to setup shop. At one point, BMW looked into converting the old IBM plant into a car production facility. They were not overly greedy in seeking out tax breaks that had been offered by other communities and like the Kingston location better. The political's refused to entertain the offer. A major horse training facility was interested in setting up shop in the corn fields around the area. Again, no. We don't want the kind of traffic such a facility would generate. So, they went to Saugerties. An amusement park also showed interest. Once again, no, we don't that kind of element. And so, Kingston continues to decline.
