During a townhall hosted by the To Share Brewing company, Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) said gun manufacturers oppose universal because checks because they want to sell guns “to someone on the terror watch-list.”
She also claimed gun makers oppose gun control because they want to sell guns to teenagers.
C-Span aired Gillibrand’s interaction with supporters and her response to a woman who asked Gillibrand’s position on gun control as well as responsible gun owners.
Gillibrand began her answer by blasting the NRA, whom she claimed stands in the way “common sense gun reform.” From there she transitioned to gun manufacturers, whom she said, “only care about gun sales.”
She then added:
Because the gun manufacturers only care about gun sales, they oppose the common sense reform that can save lives. They want to oppose universal background checks because they want to sell an assault rifle to a teenager in a Walmart or to someone on the terror watch list or to someone whose gravely mentally ill with a violent background or to someone with a criminal conviction for a violent crime. They want to sell those weapons, that is why they oppose universal background checks.
Gillibrand then named other gun controls and suggested gun makers oppose those controls as well because they want to guns and accessories “no matter what, to anybody.”
