Does anyone know if there is a problem carrying concealed at the Kodak Hall Eastman Theater in Rochester?
My wife and I are going to see Boz Scaggs there in June and just wanted to know in advance. Thanks.

Not quite. I go there every week for school (MCC has some classes in the basement). There are no detectors at the door, correct. I went there to see Tim Allen last November and they had barricades up with personnel wand-ing people as they came in. I had to do the walk of shame back to the truck.

I once walked right past a security guard at an outdoor concert mechanically waving the wand up and down. She was just staring off into space as the wand beeped away. She must have gotten tired of it beeping at every belt buckle and set of keys, so had giving up on caring.
The guards were very intent on searching backpacks and coolers for beer though - not because beer was't allowed, but because the vendors were charging $5 for like half a cup of piss beer.

Out of curiosity, I Googled Kodak Hall at Eastman Theatre and this came up:

If that is true, that it is part of a university, you might be taking the chance of being arrested and of forever losing your pistol permit should you be found to be carrying a firearm there.

It's a private university. How would it be any different than the mall, etc where the worst they can do is ask you to leave or face trespassing charges?

Any workplace used in conjunction with the U of R is and can easily be considered an educational facility. If there are interns or students/projects working out of the university, you could be in a shitload of bad luck when you get a wand detecting a concealed firearm. My personal opinion is that the potential is very real, however even the majority aren't aware of this for the most part in those buildings. You can either carry anyways and risk a lot in this climate today, or you can keep the gun inside and be defenseless, or avoid the places altogether. Those are your options. Oh yeah, almost forgot, that includes 99.99% of hospitals too.... The gray areas aren't really so gray, but more like a dark grey or light black in color.

I wish I had written down the source of the instructors information, but I took an introduction to defensive carry class by a well respected instructor a couple years ago. The no gun zones in schools came up. His explanation of this was interesting. He told us that carrying in a school was only an offense if the individual was carrying with intent to commit a felonious act. At the time, this tidbit wasn't as important to me as it is today. Wish I could find it.
