I really don't know. I am not as young as I used to be...
But, my heart tells me that I think I would re-enlist. Maybe not so much as a front line kind of Soldier. I have many years of knowledge and know how that I can still share.
Overall, that is a tough question.

Pansies. My dad was in Iraq when he was 60. Just kidding - the pansies part, that is. It's scary how squirrely things are getting. Maybe the country we need to wipe off the planet it Saudi Arabia, no? And every time I see how many weapons we've supplied to people who'd turn and use them against us in a heartbeat, while listening to "you don't need an assault rifle"... makes me want to punch something.

I couldn't go back because of my kids. Couldn't imagine missing a single extra day with them, or being too far away to protect them in the event of a conflict on our shores. Four deployments is enough. I did my share.

I had planned to retire about 4 years before I actually did. I had all the paperwork in hand, I was mentally ready. Another deployment opportunity came up and I told the Misses that I was going to hold off on the retirement. Doc, she was not at all thrilled. She said words that I did not existed. After much talking, she saw it my way and I stayed around until April 2015. She was happy though, I ended up NOT doing the deployment that I was trying to do.
Bigger retirement check though.

Yes, very true. The addiction is very real and very powerful. It is not only about the war thing, it is the people, the service and the adventure. I do miss deploying.

Its hard to explain and sounds terrible but you care less about why you are there and more about the tasks at hand.
Very true. Ask most Soldiers why they are at war, most have very little idea nor do most care. They have a task and they complete it.
