Kinda what I was thinking. Was handled as a live MK2,
And rightfully so.
Doubt they would place a live grenade in inventory to be destroyed at a later date?
Most likely inert.
Good drama though……

And rightfully so.

I was a range instructor at Ft. Leonard Wood Mo. for awhile I worked mostly small arms but on occasion filled in on others like the grenade range, I absolutely hated it because I can't throw anything worth a shit. That old saying "you throw like a girl" well I wish I could throw as good as a girl!Years ago we helped a friend put up a barn on his property. One day when we were there afterwards, he hands me a brown bag and says its lunch time. I look in the bag and there's 2 pineapples from WWII era, one has the original pin and the other has an old rusty nail in place of the pin. So, years later, my friend passes away and his ex wife gets it all. He had an extensive collection of rifles and handguns, over 200 combined. She turned it all in to the troopers. Sold the property, 2 houses and a barn. So me and a friend are driving in the area and stop to see what somebody did with the property. Stopped and talked to the new owner, he tells us he found a grenade in the small house and detonated it. So we tell him where the other 2 were hidden in the barn and he let us watch as he pulled the pin and the nail on the other and tossed them into a field. Thats how you dispose of grenades.
The article never really says it was a live grenade, just bomb disposal "handled it as live". Probably just a trainer...
