Loading for Black Powder

Particularly looking for recipes for in-line muzzleloaders.

I was able to acquire some Blackhorn 209. I have 44 caliber 240gr XTPs and 225gr FTX. I also have 230gr XTP 45 caliber bullets and sabots for each. Harvester Crushed Rib Sabots.

I'll be loading a CVA Wolf 50 cal.

I've read that 110gr Blackhorn and the 225 FTX is a good combo.

I'm going to assume that is a weighed charge rather than a volume charge but I don't know. I've also read where that charge by volume is around 70-80gr when weighed. I would prefer to weigh each charge.

I had tried White Hots and Powerbelts but couldn't get any real consistency.

Thoughts?

Black powder and its substitutes' measures are generally provided by volume, not weight, so if you think that charge was provided by weight, I would check your source to be 100% sure. I never used Blackhorn, but it seems unlikely that it would be published by weight.

That said, if I prefered to load by weight, I would measure out 5-10 published charges by volume, weigh them, take the average and from then on load by weight.

Years ago I went down this same bunny trail only with a .54 caliber, finally decided to K.I.S.S. and went back to a round ball. Deer don't know the difference!

Real granulated black powder, patched round ball have proved lethal enough. When I go modern there are brass things and copper things involved, no wreaths of that beautiful blue-white smoke filling the nose with the most aromatic smell a man could hope for, but thats the sacrifice you make when prepping.
I feed my dogs pellets, not my firelocks.
