Looking for a gunsmith for a Rem. 1100

anybody have any recommendations for a gunsmith with experience with 1100s. I picked up a new used one recent and want it gone over completely. Was having some sporadic FTEs would like it running 100%

Trying to find someone relatively local before I send it out to one of the "name" smiths.

After you've cleaned it and lubed it and if still happens try replacing the rubber o-ring. If I remember correctly it's a #21 Viton O-ring (pls doublecheck). If it fails to seal properly you may have a gas problem and bolt not cycling properly.

Good thought. Also when cleaning I will use a fine wire to clean the hole. I think some fine plastic from the wads passing buy gets in there.

You are both correct. I got rid of mine for that reason.

Reviving this thread. Anyone know where to get these o-rings at a better price? $6 each (Brownells) is a bit much.

Answered my own question.

Not an 1100 gunsmith but,

When most people have the FTE problem the first thing they do is dump gobs of gun or 3-in-1 oil on the gas system parts and it cures it for awhile then it usually gets worse.

Once the petroleum product evaporates it leaves the tube and parts covered with a sticky residue. My advice would be to clean all the parts which make up the gas system (except the o-ring) with a brake-kleen/degreaser type product then lube with a rem-oil type product. Wipe any excess off. A very light coat is all you need. ( Dupont makes a very light oil w/teflon. ) Clean the o-ring and lube with the light lube(teflon based is good). Clean the gas ports with the degreaser and lightly lube, again with the teflon based stuff. You can buy pipe cleaners with bristles which work good for cleaning the holes.
Reassemble "correctly" any see if it works any better. I "repaired" a few 1100's with the same problem and this cleaning procedure cured the issues with all.

I’ve had my original , first production run 1100 for over 35 years now and I haven’t had one problem with. With proper cleaning and care these things will last more than one lifetime.
