looking for some thoughts on scopes I'm thinking of buying

need to buy a scope for a Tikka tx1 narrowed it down to a Leupold VX freedom 6-18 or a Burris rt 5-25 or the rt 3-15 reallyb likenthe Leupold but the parralax is minimal at 60 yds, don't have any bexperience with Burris but I do with Stiener and I belive that some how the two are related pretty much done with vortex not that there bad or anything like that just that they don't seem to me to be on par with Leupold or Stiener own 4 leupolds 2 stieners and 2 vortex need some heads up on burris

I really like the luepold scope that I have. I have it on a .22lr and my kids shoot 1” steel, but I shoot the branches on the trees around the target that are 1/4” wide. Great scope, clear glass and we all love it.

Pretty much can't go wrong with Leupold

I have a Leupold VX Freedom and it is an awesome scope. I run mostly Vortex scopes and highly reccommend them, but since you arent considering them, I would choose the Leupold.

I much prefer my similarly priced luepold over the vortex scope I have. The luepold is much clearer and better glass. I also think it’s built better.

I think the Freedom would be perfect for that rifle. It’s lite weight and it’s a leupold. Has the gold band on it, it’s forever. I run a Mark AR Fire-dot - G TMR. Best scope I ever looked through.

what is the scope for? whst type of shooting, competition ans or min and max distances on average.
Do you need fast correction and a stadia with measures consistent to the click unit of measure?
Do you need to be able to read a newspaper at 100 or 200 yards like with BR score target scope?
some ot these answers will help making a better decision

is that to simulate LR tactical shooting and practice at various alternating targets or just have plenty of magnifocation at a fixed distance that is plenty to see scores like score BR shooting?
I am guessing precision of adjustment or complex stadia is less critical since 22lr is quite erratic at those distances.
But I ask in case those features are also important for this use and/or future rifles.
In the 22lr bolt action I use mid budget scope with the same features and units I have in the expensive high end scopes that is:
Wide mag range either 2 to 10, 3-15 or 4-20 so I have a practical low end magnifocation with a wide fov.
adjustable side parallax.
zero stop
Mil -mil adjustment and stadia, ideally army mil dot or something similar not too busy.
Fine stadia lines with accurate ranging marks or dots.
30 mm tube minimum
japanese, us or german glass and make sure there is little or no optical aberration at any mag setting
decent tracking with less than a .5% error in a 10 mil square.
positive click I can hear and easy to read marks by just raising my eyes.

The reason for me is because I shoot tactically at alternating distances and angles from different positions so I want to be able to do certain adjustments by simple mental calculation or holding in the stadia thus why mil mil consistent units and ffp.
I also like the 3-15 and 4-20 magnification so I can zoom in and study targets and see impacts wo the need of side optics / spotting scope or help all the time.

I have a leopold taeget scope that is a 30 range duplex and one can read a newspaper at 200 yards but is good only for that, target score shooting at high mag settings

.22lr out to 200-250 yards? Wow and why? Looking at this chart it’s a 45-60” drop at that yardage. You could probably stand down range and have the bullets drop into a burlap sack to catch and reuse the projectiles. Just kidding there I’m curious as to why you want to do this.

mainly because I like to. shooting 22lr at long range is a challenge it will definitely teach you how to dope the wind who cares about drop it's way too over rated it's a known number so you hold for it people seem to dwell on drop and buy cartridges that don't drop as much as others to me drop is simple I look at the charts if it says hold over what ever that's what I do and it pretty much works out now figuring wind that's another story . try shooting 22lr at 200 yards in a quartering 15 mile wind. I get bored shooting center firer at 250 yards or so so 22lr is the challenge it also helps my long range shooting over all

You should check-out some of the NRL22 long-range shooting videos on You-Tube. This is gaining in popularity. My Club started last year with some practice matches out to 100 yards, we need some taller target stands to be over the 100 yard berm out to our max of 200 yards. The challenge is what make it fun!!

Exactly! I use a pair of custom Ruger 77/22's with Shilen barrels along with two tricked out 10/22's if I want. I also have been shooting my 22 pistols in steel challenge matchs at the Club.

Probably because it's same reason as me I shoot mine out the 210 heres a couple of pics .






it's the same as shooting my 223 with 75 grain eld-m out to 840y 24.7 Moa elevation very useful and cheap training tool I actually go through about 2 bricks of Norma tac 22 a month doing just this don't underestimate the power I have flattened more than one Fox at 200 yards with a 22 ya just got to put it in the right spot .
