Been out of the game so long, not sure if any new rules or regs have come up. I'd like to sell off a good portion of my gun collection. How can I go about doing so?
Depends on receiving FFL. Handguns are definitely ffl to ffl, but not longguns
Too bad gander closed. Coulda offloaded to themOk, I think what I'll do is juts get them listed and just hope that the buyer can direct me as to what we need to do to finish the deal. Thanks much.

Geez give him decent info.
You can take them to a local gun shop and have them sell them on commission. My local shop takes a 20% commission.
Some shops will buy guns but you won't get as much as you would selling them yourself. But its the easiest way.
You can post an ad with info, price, photos right here on NY Gun Forum for free and maybe one of these cheap bastards will buy something.
You can also register and pay a small fee to sell on Armslist.com; GunBroker.com; ArmsAmerica, etc. Read the rules for each one, they can work out OK but you also get some flakey buyers that won't make a payment or are complete idiots.
You can also post a listing at your local gun clubs and even your supermarket, fire hall, bar, etc.
Common sense applies, you don't want to deal with criminals or assholes.
For local transactions you agree to a price with the buyer and meet up at a FFL who will do the background check and charge a $10 to $25 fee for handling the transfer. If it is a handgun they will give you a paper you can take to your county clerk and have the handgun removed from your permit (you want to do this promptly for obvious reasons).
For long distance transactions the buyer needs to have their local FFL send you a copy of their license and it is a good idea to look them up on the internet and confirm that they are a legit FFL. Do a search. Once you know it's a legit FFL then you can use USPS or FedEx to ship your unloaded gun safely packaged without ammo to the FFL where they will do the transfer and background check to the buyer (they pay).
You can ship long guns yourself to the FFL. If it's a handgun it has to go Second Day Air between your FFL to their FFL. Again you get a paper to get the handgun off your permit.
You should still do your homework, if you ship a gun to California or NYC that is illegal I am not sure of the liability but the hassle factor alone will never be worth it.
You can give the guns to immediate family members (your kids) so long as you believe them capable of passing the same background check every other gun owner goes through.
I'm not a lawyer and not responsible for anything above. Work with your local FFL.
Finally it is a buyers market and prices are down but real collectibles will always be strong.

No most charge more. But the buyer pays not you.Are FFLs still required to only charge $10 per transfer or are they still charging whatever the hell they want?

Pistols definitely have to go FFL to FFL.

Not 100% acurate. You can ship directly to an ffl. You need a receipt from the receiving ffl to remove from your permit.
Again! It is NOT against the law to ship a handgun or rifle to an ffl.
