M1 Garand question

Saw some Federal Fusion 30-06 165gr@ buds for $1.50 a round. I know you should use 150 grain will 165 grain be ok?

I would say both are fine. As far as grouping, for that, you will have to bench it and determine where they are grouping. The only other issue may be that you may have to adjust the gas valve, but probably not.

New to the Garand. Didn’t know you could adjust gas valve. Came with tons of the surplus stuff but it shits up the gas system. Rifle has an LMR barrel so I’d rather start really seeing what it could do. You know as opposed to just popping off shit rounds.

The stock Garand does not have an adjustable gas system. Below is one you can get to avoid bending the op rod. Commercial ammunition not designed for the Garand could build up too much pressure at the gas port, which is why most people recommend not using it. Schuster M1 Adjustable Gas Plug

Isn't the commercial stuff less pressure than the NATO Rounds?

Most of the commercial 30-06, especially hunting loads, is hotter than the Garand was designed for.

I think you are right. I was at a gun show last week and was looking at an M1A and that exact conversation took place.
Because I have .308 ammo and use WWII surplus for my M! Garand even though I do have an adjustable Gas Plug.

You are right. I have seen it and it clearly says on the box that it is designed for the Garand.

I too saw many different company’s that make ammo specifically marked for the Garand and M1A
But of course not available. After reading all on here’s input, I think I’ll just use the surplus stuff for now. But as usual I’m glad I asked here first.
