These have been out for awhile. I have the magnetospeed sporter,,,cost me a 150 bucks and it works like a champ,,Ive seen complaints because of the way it straps to the barrel but Ive had no issues,,,none.
A chrono isnt just for reloaders,,,,its what everyone should use when it comes to info you need to verify how many clicks you need on your scope for the distance you are shooting,,,going by velocity on the ammo box is useless.
POI shift is no big deal to me,,,I have no problems wasting 5 rnds to get my avg velocity per gun. I pick a bullet to reload, a powder to use, the amount of powder, the case, the primer,,,,,,I measure it and stick with it.
MagnetoSpeed Sporter ChronographOh I'll have to check out the sporter one. The only version I saw was like 500.
But I know I want/need a chrono for the following reasons....
1) when I start reloading for 450bushmaster for deer season and my deer "pistol"
2) I wont carry my glock 19 right now until I can verify actual velocities with my carry ammo
You wouldn't use it while shooting groups.another downside is POI shift
Where are you located Ed? If close to the 12550, I'd let you borrow my sporter if you just wanted to quick check some velocities for a day
Is that really relevant though if it's a consistent shift? Group size and velocity are really the only things that matter here.another downside is POI shift

It is very relevant if you are performing Optimal Charge Weight testing. Having a bayonet attached to the muzzle of your rifle will effect the barrels harmonics and timing.
Not saying POI shift isnt an issue but I'd consider it lower down
My guess is you do not handload?
I don't. But if I shoot 5 rounds of one load and they group how I want, then shoot 5 more to test velocity.
Extra work yea but if I'm not mistaken once you find a good load then how often do you test those
I've had a Magnetospeed V3 for several years. For me, the damn thing has never worked properly. The bayonet has been insensitive to rounds fired from rifles or pistols (ex/Sig 1911 w/rail). I've tried different batteries, different cables, different mounting distances (to minimize the distance of the bayonet below the muzzle), and every selectable sensitivity available from the head unit. The dang thing doesn't detect most rounds. And, if it detects something, the results vary wildly (even on factory ammunition).
For me, this has been a colossal waste of money and time.
