Marriott, Other Companies Vow to Suspend Donations to Politicians Who Voted Against Biden Certification

Marriott, the world’s largest hotel chain, said last week’s chaos at the Capitol caused the company to halt campaign donations to lawmakers who voted against certifying the electoral college results of President-elect Joe Biden’s win — a fresh sign of corporate America’s uneasiness with the violent attacks inspired by President Trump’s words.

The Blue Cross Blue Shield Association said it would do the same. The provider of health insurance to more than 100 million people said in a statement that its political action committee was suspending contributions “to those lawmakers who voted to undermine our democracy.”





Commerce Bank also said in a statement that its PAC has “suspended all support for officials who have impeded the peaceful transfer of power.” It has bank branches in five states, mostly in the Midwest.

The rabid group Lincoln Project plans to attack all companies who donated to the 138 Republican representatives and eight Republican senators who voted against Biden:

What about making all corporate donations to politicians and lobbying (other than non-profit groups) illegal?
Non profits as citizen groups donations cannot have pipelines from corporate donations.
This new law should have heavy penalties and jail time for those in violation.
I know lobbying-for-profit is the oldest profession in the world, older than prostitution, but we need to let it go if one day we want to have any chances of having a fair amd ethical political system.

I got in a big argument with my history teacher many years ago, because to my simple mind, there was no particular difference between the commies and fascists, as they used identical means of suppression. Turns out I was right, as the nuances of their “philosophies“ are utterly lost to their complete lust for power.

Sounds like you are a smart man who understood Horseshoe Economic Theories better than your teacher.

The horseshoe model provides a visual clarity on impacts of the political spectrum. It is not that communism and capitalism share economic ideologies, or that communism and fascism share political ideologies, but in practice, extremes of both models lead to the same basic consequence, a politically repressed and economically deprived citizenry ruled by the few.

Oddly, I always considered the political spectrum as circular, where normal independent people who wanted simply to be left alone were at “north”, and then regardless of right or left circulated down to the utter totalitarians at “south”. The so called “elites” always congregate toward the “south”. You can read in any moral, societal, or religious overtones you see fit.
