I live near the Mass border and venture into Mass quite often.Just wondering what the regs for ammunition,mag capacity,hollow points etc.Just curious how outside the law I am when visiting.

Gun ownership in Massachusetts
Massachusetts residents 15 years and older who wish to possess, carry, and transport firearms, ammunition, and feeding devices are required to have a firearms license. Firearms licenses are issued by municipal police departments.

First of all, I'm no lawyer. The advice I'm giving here may or may not be legal. Assume it is not. You're on your own.
That said...
Mass Gun Laws, like most BLUE STATE gun laws, vary from ridiculous to insane.
They are complicated, and LEO's don't understand them.
"Tell it to the Judge" would be the common refrain - except Judges don't understand the Gun Laws either.
1: If you're Out-of-State and you feel you must bring a firearm into Mass, play it safe and lock whatever you have in an opaque bag, inside another bag. A messy trunk is your best friend. Do not keep your Firearms License in your wallet next to your Drivers License. A cop may notice and trigger trouble. Never agree to have your vehicle searched. Never store ammo or firearms in the Center Console or Glove Box. Never transport loaded. Try like hell to store Ammo in a separate locked container. All these things may help in court, if it ever came to that. These are the precautions I would take it if I needed to travel armed into NY.
2: If you want to be legal, the hoops they are going to make you jump through are way beyond my understanding. Best to call the Massachusetts Firearm Agency from out-of-state beforehand and see how to apply for a License.
3: To the best of my knowledge, no Mag that contains more than TEN ROUNDS is legal. Please don't bring them into Mass. They may escalate a bad situation into a severe one.
4: To buy Ammo in Mass you need a Mass License to Carry - or Mass FID. Sucks for the shops, for sure.
5: You might want to visit Northeastshooters.com Forums, the "premiere" Mass Gun Forum and ask or read. I never go there myself anymore. I was banned - they did me a favor. Just watch out if you are tempted to stray into Politics there - or want to mention some gal has a nice rack. The administrators are arrogant, liberal, and extremely uptight. That said, 99% of the members are righteous.

Ok,the mag limit is one I was looking for.I can carry in Mass,with HR 218.I am just curious about mag limits,and if hollow points are ok.

Im actually in the middle of this very process right now, so I can speak to it with some authority.
1) take a safety training course approved by the Massachusetts State Police. It must be conducted by an instructor approved by the Massachusetts State Police. You will receive a certificate that must be submitted with your application.
2) Download and complete the application for a “temporary” license to carry.
3) Submit the application with fee and requested documentation to the Firearms Record Bureau in Chelsea.
4) Wait.
5) receive email or snail mail with an appointment date and time. You must appear in person at the FRB at that date and time for fingerprints, photographs, and to update any information in your packet. Appointments are typically in the middle of the week and in the middle of the day.
6) wait some more.
7) wait some more.
8) wait some more.
Just like many jurisdictions in New York, as soon as you’ve given up hope, a letter will arrive in the mail. It may contain a LTC with or without restrictions, or it may contain a rejection letter. If you receive a LTC with no restrictions, proceed to your closest gas station or supermarket and buy a couple of lottery tickets.
Massachusetts currently requires you to renew your nonresident LTC by mail every year, at a cost of about $100 each time. On the fifth or sixth year, they require you to appear in person in Chelsea again.
There are a couple of hotels within walking distance of the FRB office in Chelsea. Both have shuttle service to/from Logan airport.

Some highlights:
FID is needed to posses long gun ( rifle or shotgun) if it is low capacity
LTC needed for high capacity long gun or handgun
Ammo or even components (brass hulls primers bullets) require one of above licenses to purchase OR EVEN POSSESS ammo or components
Any long gun or handgun not under your immediate control must comply with Mass safe storage laws.
There are different rules for transport of firearms versus storage. However if you stop vehicle for coffee or pit stop once you leave vehicle you are no longer transporting but storing.
Magazines holding 10 rounds or less are ok
Magazines holding more than 10 rounds are not ok unless they are “pre ban” 1994
Pre ban AR and AK and such are generally ok. Post ban rifles with detachable mag can only have one other evil feature so if you have hand grip you can’t have adjustable stock or flash higher or threaded barrel or......
There is more. Yes it sucks.
