OK, sorry in advance if this has been covered here. During my great deal buying frenzy last week (aka another moment of weakness) I ordered a Savage .308 for my buddy from the same online site as my Savage .223. Paid for em both on my dime, shipped together, and had them send to my local FFL together. They should be arriving Monday evening, at which time I'll be waiting at his door as soon as I get off work. Here's the question.

Do I have to take possession of "his" rifle, then transfer it to him or can the FFL simply put it in his name instead of me right out of the box? Many apologies for the question.

I've picked up orders not in my name from FFLs before. The only thing that really matters is what the 4473 says. As long as your FFL knows that the name on the box won't be matching the customer (I.e. so Joe Blow off the street doesn't just nab a free gun) then you both get your respective transfers.

Yeah, you're right. He's given me the "I'll catch up to you later" routine before. Don't want to have to beat him down with the butt end of his own gun!

I tried doing this at Johnson's in Lockport, bought a rifle from GunBroker for my nephew. Those phucktards wouldn't let him take possession because it was shipped in my name. I explained the circumstances but I guess they were greedy for another transfer fee, they did not get it and have never been back. It's not like they did not know me, bought my first firearm there and probably a dozen more through the years.

That might piss me off too. I hope they don't try that shit. Looking for a reason not to go back there.

I’ve done this before. My first lower receiver I ordered 3. One was for me and one each for two friends. We all went together and the store just had each of us do a transfer. No problem at all.

I did too.
Ordered and paid for a bunch of SKS but I only kept one.

Its called Johnson's because they're Dicks. I had ordered an M1A from Buds pre safe act, and when it came in and I inspected it they said had an illegal flash suppressor and they would not let me have it. I explained to them That a rifle can have one banned feature . they would hear it. they sent it back to Buds , who said it was perfectly legal they send them to NY all the time. I had to get a different FFl to do it , SWAT in Lackawanna I think it was. I haven't walked in the store since.

Well, both came in today and the guy gave me no issue registering one for me and one for my buddy. I was expecting the "double bang" approach but not so. It was however the owner's dad running the show alone tonight and I think he's a alot easier, and more personable, to deal with. If I had the other two (husband and wife) I suspect the outcome would've been a little different. All's well that ends well I suppose.
