I think they will. Here the legislature has indicated that they want to make Utah a 2A sanctuary state and all 29 county sheriffs have officially stated they will not enforce new federal gun control.

I've no problem with it in this context, but to be devil's advocate if this becomes a regular thing for different levels of government to do it could greatly undermine the constitution when it comes to other issues. If this really gained traction nationally--not enforcing federal laws--the federal government's response would be to increase the number of federal police, and everyone will pay for that whether they want to or not.

That's why the solution is to bring taxes local. You defang the feds from their need tax and give back, then you defang their ability to move money around or hold that against states they don't like.
Bring social services local. Bring the highways local only. Bring anything outside of national defense coordination and maybe some other stuff like ports -- local.
If you keep their budget thin, they won't have resources to push an agenda.

Bottom line, if the federal government tries to usurp the Constitution and it's authority, it is the states' obligation to set it right. We aren't talking about the federal government passing a law or laws that are within the Constitution and the feds authority and states rebelling. We are talking about the feds potentially passing blatently unconstitutional laws that it is forbidden from passing. I'd much rather have whole states pushing back then just some orgs filing lawsuits.

There shouldn't *be* federal criminal laws that apply to the general public.
Maybe a few anti-corruption laws that bind state agents, and the UCMJ but that's it.
Roll the "commerce clause" back to where it's supposed to be (only settling disputes between the states and ensuring free trade between them) and all that BS would go away.
The notion that the feds can ban a common weed because someone might sell it to a neighboring state and that's "interstate commerce" is ridiculous on it's face.

This is where it gets tricky and we'll see how much resolve the states have. The feds will throw the supremacy clause at the states and that would technically be the end of it. The states would lose in court. However, bringing something like this to court would be basically fast tracking the federal gun control through the courts. Maybe my non legal brain isn't looking at it the right way, but it seems to me that the supremacy clause doesn't give the feds the right to violate the Constitution and that the states have an obligation or at least a standing to keep the feds in check when this happens.
