Modifying pistol magazine to 10 rounds

I have to believe this question has been beat to death somewhere in this forum. Darned if I can find any discussion.

I've bought a CZ Shadow 2. They come with 17 round mags. I'm having it Cerakoted so I have some time to figure this out.

Three options:
1. They will ship with no mags
2. They will substitute 10 round mags but are out of stock. Not sure when they will get more.
3. Ship the 17 round mags if the FFL will modify the mags. One FFL said he no didn't know how to do it. My other FFL suggested a product called Mag Block. Which is a spacer epoxied to the base plate to make it permanent.

So here we go with what is permanent. If the base plate is swapped out to an original version with no spacer, it will hold 17 rounds.
For option 1 no mags, I have asked if they could ship the 10 rounders eventually when (if) more are received. Haven't heard back yet.

I'm thinking it's not worth the possible legal issue to modify the mags. Even if I have to buy the 10 rounders elsewhere.

There are no good answers.

But as far as swapping the baseplate restoring the capacity, I could swap the baseplate on nearly every factory 10 round magazine I own and bring them to 11 or 12 with a cheap extension you can get anywhere.

Your FFL could also rivet the mags to 10 rounds. One simply puts a rivet into the side of the mag so the follower can’t be depressed beyond the 10 round mark. I have some 30 round AR mags and EVO mags like that.

Might be worth waiting for the 10 rounders this way you have no potential issues. Only problem is finding some elsewhere in the meantime.

I’d get the 10 round mags. I don’t feel the mag blocks are legal. Not that it means much but they say right on their site not sure on the legality of this.

When I got my M&P, it came with 2 standard capacity mags. The FFL dimpled the magazine bodies with a punch to limit the capacity to 10.

Nice and easy and no longer capable of accepting more than 10 rounds.

My opinion. Just buy the right 10 round magazines. Safer legality wise and reliability wise. Buy once and never have to worry about it later.

Mec Gar 10 rounders are readily available. I'm going with those. Also asking for a discount if they omit the standard mags. Also asking if they can ship 10 rounders later. My FFL dealers don't modify mags.

Yea the mec gar are the actual CZ mags.. but mec gar just sells them under their name as well

I’ve thought of this but always worried I’d bend the mag body so it wouldn’t function well or at all. Glad to know it works. I’ve got a few that a cop friend of mine has that need dimpling.

I'd go with the factory 10 rounders. No reliability issues that way and nobody sees you carrying around some rigged up bullshit.
If they don't have them will they give you a credit so you can buy them elsewhere? Worst case, I would still wait until they can get them sent to you. You'll want extra mags anyway so tell them to ship when they get them and just buy 1 or 2 to use for now.
